What can l say, when your getting it rough and a bit down with  Poker,  it just kicks u in the bollocks again. Today, myself, Chris Huyton, Ian and Terry Nelson, Nick Slade, Ash Hussain, Matt Tyler and Peter Smyth (Bifta) all travelled to the newly opened City North Hotel for the recently relocated Northern Irish Poker Championships. It was a total DISASTER which was called off after 2 hours of arguments between players and JPC staff. This was after the police had told JPC that they could not host the tournament. The 80 players that turned up were straight up in arms and after negotiations by the knowledgeable Terry Nelson( fresh after his 5 rounds at Walsall) we brokered a very amicable deal.

It was not entirely welcome but after a few drinks it got a bit more acceptable for most who had turned up.

I think that this will be the last straw for Northern Irish Poker Tournaments and it will be interesting to see wether the Green Joker Poker Freezeout goes ahead at the City North in a few weeks.

The Guards (Irish Police) turned up and prevented the tournament from going ahead. It is too early to say what this means for hotel tournaments in Ireland. We have been running live tournaments for over 2 years with no problems and so have many other companies. The law currently states that as long as we take only one reg fee then it is oerfectly legal. As this is a new hotel they were not about to fight with the local superintendant about possible threats to the renewal of their licence should the tournament have gone ahead.

As far as the Green Joker Poker tournament is concerned - It will go ahead. Whether we have to change venues or not is another matter and Blondes will be the first to know (outside of Ireland:) ) should the venue have to be changed.

Can I just say that Matt Tyler, Ash & Nick Slade are very sick puppies changing their fllights at the last minute in Warsaw airport because they saw a flight to Dublin that enabled them to play in this tournament. I presume that they were eliminated from the EPT to very bad beats beats but not one's as bad as this.

It's incredible when you think about it. We're grown me being told that we can't play a game of cards.

no i think they would allow us to play cards

but they are not allowing us to gamble money on a game of cards

they are trying to prevent explotation of the innocent from gangsters

bot saying anyone involved in any game is a gangster but before the laws came into place

it was gangsters that exploited these games

i would agree but i also know some people if it wasn't for the nanny state would be in a right pickle
we have to work to the lowest common denominator even if it means 99% of us feel like we are being victimised

Nah, could only buy into that thought process if it were just as hard to waddle into a bookies and drop a grand on 1 horse in 1 race, then waddle round to the bingo hall and play 10 books at £x each, after i dropped £100 into a slot machine on the way round.
