Well being tho this is the only forum that i post on really, I was intrested whether anybody knows anything on playing cricket.  I have been a keen follower of the game for like 5 years same as poker really.  I hit 8 happy gilmores in a row for 200 plus yards down the driving range last year without any real training in golf at all and for some reason saw myself being able to dance down the wicket and smash a spinner for a 6 quite easilly for some reason.  Well those who have seen me know that I aint the fittest guy in the world and am quite overweight at the moment.  Cardiff uni is a bit dyer and apart from poker it gets a bit boring so i wanted to join a cricket club of some sorts for social scene and bit of fitness 2.  Just wondered what type of gear i needed and what kind of cricket tutoring/training do people advise me to take and what costs you think im looking at if i want to get in to cricket?  Totally wrong forum to do this but theres loads of people here 1 of you must know some info on this subject.

cheers

Dafydd

Perfect time of year to get stated Dafydd!

Basically you need to contact a local club(where you will be this summer) and they will introduce you to this wonderfully social game! (some clubs play at quite a high level, ...but if they cant help you as a beginner, they will know where you can go!)

Cost is minimal £5 ish match fee and maybe a small membership charge.....they will have all the kit....you just need to buy/borrow some clothing and possibly some boots, after a while.
They will do net training etc  once or twice a week ,so basically they will train you!.

Maybe try and find someone at uni/home who is keen as well and go together.

I've played for many years and have toured the whole of Europe playing......a fantastic excuse for a weekend away!

Good luck!

I love cricket.... I was always playing as a kid.. On the field every week and the Local pitch when it was free for is to play on....

The local team would some times help us out, and have a practice with us....

Its a shame now, becasue I still live over the road from the club, but the gates are locked so no-one can get in. The local council have stopped painting a pitch on the local feild..

Ahhhh... Old times.....

I have played to a decent standard (not as high as edy obviously) but got paid when I was younger.

Get into a local club, nets are usually organised twice a week. Games are usually played saturday and sunday, with wednesday usually being 20 over cricket.

I love the game and miss playing. I played a game last year in the norfolk premier league - opened the bowling - bowled a bouncer 1st ball, inswinging yorker which cleaned the opener up 2nd ball - 3rd ball pulled my hamstring and didnt play again lololol

OT - Eddie who ya fancy for the WC. I have a decent slip for SA at tasty odds and have a small wager on Bangladesh at 400/1 + - now trading at 80s

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

I play every Sunday during the summer at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Not the highest standard, we basically play villages and touring teams as exhibiton matches for the tourists. We are always looking for new players, all you need is a set of whites trainers/boots we supply the rest. (you may, however, want to buy your own box. )

If you, or anyone fancies a Sunday game in the most lovely surroundings drop me a PM.
