£500 westcliff,is the td in the wrong?

This happened to my good mate last night at westcliff and he is pissed off,hes a very good player,pleased to hear your opinions....

Question here for a seasoned pro-.

I have the elbow at the moment.

Have been in Southend at the Westlicffe for last few days as what was a well run festival.

Anyway, in the main event last night (£500) there were 72 runners. It was a 2 day event.

At about 2am when on a break the tournament director announced that we would play a maximum of 3 more levels tonight or play until we were down to 27 players (3 tabs).

This was understood by all and play resumed.

Anyway with about 30 left I wasnt in great shape, With the blinds at 600/1200 and only have 9000 chips I made a decision that I was going to get my chips in ASAP to try and double or go home.

I did not want to come all the ay back or pay for a hotel and hang around until 3pm and come back to the game with just 5 Big blinds.

So I made a move and lost fair and square - I was 28th - Perfect.

However, once I was out the TD announced that he had changed his mind and would not play down to 18.

Obv I would have waited......What do to eh?

I play about 1 fetival a month and I am sure there are many here with lot more experience who have a view or two on this.

i wouldnt of liked it but in the t&c of all these comps they put in a provos saying cardroom reserver right to change the structure when they want too

i think your mate has the right to feel miffed but nothing can be done about it

apart from not playing unless a uniform set of rules are applied

This is a typical thing you hear on the forum..changing the rules half way through the tourney when it's not requested by all players (and especially at the last minute) it's simply unforgivable in my opinion.

iron i see your point and its valid,boldie i agree with you,it is unforgivable,this was a £500 pound tournament ffs,i drove home with the aggrived and we talked and agreed that he did the correct move with his chipstack and the fact that there were 28 players left,just 20 minutes before he made his move we were told that play would finish leaving 27 players to return tommorrow.Had he known 18 were coming back he would definatly have waited for a better spot than q 10 under the gun.{He had 2 or 3 more rounds}.
If i were him i would be taking this further and monetary compensation is the only thing that will sort this situation.

What happened was this.

It was announced at the START of the comp that play would stop with 27 players left or at 4am (whichever came first)
When the 28th player went out, the TD announced "Dealers stop dealing after the hand in play, we have reached 27 players" ... this was at 2.50am .. with 15 minutes left of a 40 min level.

the PLAYERS asked if they could carry on and after consultation, the PLAYERS all agreed to finish the current level AND play one extra level.

With only 10 getting paid, and time for a level and a half to be played out, I thought it made perfect sense to carry on.

18 players return today for a 3pm start, and tikay, Mick Fletcher and Jim Reid are among those left.

Yes mate, I picked him up at about half 5, he lives just round the corner from me and i have never met the bloke, pulled up outside his house and honked the horn ... this kid came out and said.."do you know if you can wear trainers ?" I said not sure, i would shove a pair of shoes on just to be sure...

I thought he was asking for his older brother ... but NO it was Moorman himself... I thought he was 16 ffs LOLOLOLOL

He was embarrassingly card dead all night and ended up going out in about 30th.

It was like a bloody who's who of uk festival poker last night.... Names included

yes i agree kev,the way you have worded it it sounds sensible.There could be a case for the td  suggesting during a break,"ok guys weve lost a few more players than i anticipated and it makes sense to play on,any objections?"
  I heard the td say WE WILL be finishing at 27 players,thats why colin pushed with a marginal hand.A tricky situation for the td but i feel a more expierenced td would have had forsight to see that 17 players would be staying overnight for no return and suggested lets play on way before the players themselves discussed it and have made 1 too many players feel harddoneby.

Apart from the time annonced when they would definitely have to stop the TD also stated that they would play to 27 OR 18 depending what the time was when 27 was reached. They wanted to play to a complete number of tables either 2 or 3. This was announced by the TD at the start of the comp to the whole room so no grounds for complaint that i can see.

I (the TD) gave notice to all players around 2am with 42 remaining that I intended to play down to 27, or til 4am. I expected that we would get to 27 players somewhere inbetween 3.30 and 4am. so when we were down to 27 at 2.55am I told the players to stop dealing, and suggested to the field that we play on til 4 as as we still had over an hour of possible play left and I did not want to have to bring so many players back, as only 10 were getting paid.

This suggestion was met with approval from all remaining, and the decision to continue did not really effect your friend as he was no longer in the tournament. Had he of hung on in there he may well have ended up coming back today with very few chips, which as you said was not what he wanted to do. However, i do understand that he may have been a little miffed, but it's very difficult to please 100% of the field.
