Can we keep this serious please? There is no 9.46 from Brighton, you are probably thinking of the 9.49, direct to London Victoria, or the 9.21 (change at East Croydon). Always worth considering the "change" option, as it gives time to explore the Station, but
East Croydon Station is a dreadful place, & has very little to recommend it.
Here's a pic of East Croydon Station, note the dull & bland Class 37 in the foreground.

Now, Tikay, you are obviously a wise man a much knowledge, & only a fool would dare argue with you......
So here I go.
East Croydon Station is approximately 4 minutes direct walk from my old flat wot I lived in in my 'working up in town' days.
That, and the fact that you had to walk past 2 pubs to get to my flat must surely recommend it to any who find it difficult to walk more than 3 minutes without needing liquid refreshment.
Also it meant that any susceptable young ladies had very little time to ponder the errors of their ways, by the time I got them that far.
East Coydon Station ? Dreadful ?
How very dare you !!!
Mention penguins,& I wouldn't raise my tone against you, but the 'New York' of South London, I shall defend with all my honour ( well at least a little bit of it !! )
Did you know that many moons ago the Mayor of the day was arguing why Croydon should be made a city rather than Brighton. He suggested that Croydon had more inhabitants than Brighton, but Brighton was easily defined. If, he said, Croydon were separated from Streatham by beautiful rolling hills, noone could possibly argue it's right to be considered a City in it's own right. The only problem is , that Croydon is NOT separated from Streatham by hills & countryside, it's separated by Norbury.
Can't see where his idea fell apart myself.
PS That photo. Obviously platform 3. The ugliest of all the platforms. Platform 5 is much prettier.

PPS This was at the bottom of the page you linked to
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0906520401?tag=infolondon&camp=526&creative=3926&linkCode=st1&creativeASIN=0906520401&adid=1E0SEVR3NYMS0AHBF05J&
Why do you think they have only one brand new copy in stock, but 20 used copies available to buy
Not a grabber then ?

None of the East Croydon stations could in any way be described as pretty, fact.
I spent the first few years of my life quite close to Croydon, in Old Coulsdon. Now Coulsdon Station is a different matter entirely. But, overall, anything on the Southern Region is always gonna struggle against the majestic GWR, it's no contest.

Do you mean
Coulsdon North
Coulsdon South
Smitham, or
Woodmansterne ?
Coz times is changed man.
times is changed.......
Don't suppose you'd remember The Red Lion. First pub I ever got kicked out of. Don't think it's there anymore - retirement homes now, would you believe. I mean what's more important ? A pub, or warden assisted flats ?
