nice lappy better than mine

not sure on current prices but i dont think you will get much better for that price

although you can get cheaper lappys that arent quite as good

for basic playing poker and web browsing you really dont need a lappy that has whisltes on it

Any new laptop you buy now will be good enough for any 'email, web, bit of poker' stuff you want to do.

It's only if your needs are more specific (12-tabling, playing games etc) that you have to actually look at what you're buying.

You must have eaten a lot of pies to get the clubcard points for that!!

Nothing bad about that laptop, go for it if you want. It comes with Vista, are you ready for the jump? I have the positives in this post http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=21643.0 but not everyone wants to use it yet...

I would think you would get better support from a dedicated laptop site rather than Tesco Wink http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ provide a helpline for 14 days (i think!) And you get more choice.

I'd got for a 17" screen rather than a 15.4". If you want it for it to be lightweight and portable then OK, consider the 15" again, most people just use it on the couch Wink and a 17" is much easier on the eyes.

If you want me to point you at a specific laptop or 2 then I can.

Who's Richard Wink ?

In my mind there are 2 types of laptops, one that you use as a sort of desktop replacement, whether it be on a desk on or the sofa or in bed. And proper laptops that you use on the train, plane, etc. i.e one you carry about and weight is a bit of an issue and battery life is a lot of an issue.

Which type are you after? Expect to pay more for a 'proper' laptop.

wieght aint a problem as i carry on my lap

certainly not a desktop replacement as i would never get used to the small keyboard

use it as back up to pc mainly for travel

By desktop replacement I mean a big chunky laptop designed for performance not portability it doesn't have to actually be a desktop replacement for me to call it that

I like the look of these:

17" screen £460, maybe add the memory upgrade to 1GB
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_7003WSMi_with_Built-in_Webcam_LX.AE70J.032/version-1.asp

15" screen £490, already has 1GB RAM

I can't find the specs. Get me a link and I'll have a look.

Are you unhappy with it? Is it slow? Might be worth just formatting it and putting a bit more RAM in it, it will probably feel like a new laptop.

Wouldn't see too much gain over that. Stick another stick of 512MB RAM in it and it should last another year.

Only reason to upgrade would be if you wanted a bigger screen.

Is it easy to upgrade RAM on a lappy,  I've got the Acer 5101 but only 512mb RAM.  A gig would make things run a bit quicker eh.

On the bottom of the laptop one of the panels covers up the RAM. Just remove it, usually with 2 screws and check out what is under there. Usually there are 2 RAM slots and one of them is empty. There should also be a sticker on the RAM saying what type and speed it is.
