Whats the rule when playing live if a player shows his hand before making a decision?

If you've read super system DB talks about doing it back in the olden days ... but imho its a dead hand.

generally dead but no fixed rule.
sometimes just depends ho shouts loudest sometimes.

Usually dead in a tournament, not usually dead in a cash game (I think!).

If a player's facing a bet and he exposes his cards in any format in the UK (wether it be cash or tournament), unless it's a dealer error, his hand is dead.
If he's not facing a bet, then he can only call for the rest of the hand.

It depends if its heads up or not
If heads up then hand is live, although can only call bets , if more people to act then dead

If you expose your cards when you're facing a bet, you're a goner.

You have to laugh sometimes when you read the Poker Europa 'Ask The Director' sections. Some of the rulings they give are unbeleivable.

My reason for asking this is that when I was on Sky Poker last night, someone emailed the question in to the show. Ed G started to answer the question and then thought he had a better idea and asked me to answer the question.  I went with a reply along the lines of the trouble with poker is that there isn't really a defined set of rules that everyone is following, however in the UK (not sure if different elsewhere) you cannot disclose your hand and therefore you cannot show your hand and I would call the hand dead. I was dreading that I had given duff info live on the telly, so grateful that my answer was generally in the right direction. Thanks everyone  |

Thanks everyone Thing is, if you're talking about verbal declarations, then that's a different matter. That really does vary from place to place. It's taken as a moody in some places, but in others it's as bad as exposing your cards. |
