Morning all,
I'm writing a feature on poker players who are not going to the WSOP this year. Maybe they dont see the point in playing in a $10000 crapshoot, perhaps they simply dont like it or maybe they are too young to play in America.
If you are a pro player or know of one who isnt going to the WSOP, could you send me a PM for a possible one line interview in Poker Pro Europe magazine?
cheers

Don't most pro's (who aren't already bought in by their sponsors) win their seat online or in satellites nowadays - its a $100 crapshoot for $12000000 then not $10000?

I had this chat with Maxfield and he said there are far more value events through out the year around the world than the WSOP. Why play the best in the world day in, day out if you want to make money. Far more opputunities around throughout the year.

Because many play for ego.

I still argue it can not be considered a crap shoot. Some of the real worlds best players make it deep a lot of the time!!

I was thinking about the high limit STT players on Stars the other day. Most of them are playing about 5 tables and this includes the $2000+ buy in games. All they need to do is not play those for a night and they have their entry in the bag. The WSOP must be a normal part of a pro's like these thinking process.

Yes there are - but if you can win a seat into the WSOP main event for $500 where the bottom prize is going to be somewhere in the region of $14-15000 with so much "dead money" (you probably wont come across any of the best players in the world in a tournament this size for the first 3 days when you'll already be in the money!) then how can this not be value? I'd much rather take my chances in the WSOP main event for $500 with all the internet qualifiers than in a £1000 Festival main event here in the UK value wise.

I wouldn't class myself as a pro neccessarily but I have done the wsop for the last few years. 2 years ago we had the robbery and then last year the few of us went together didn't manage a cash in about 40 events between us and generally got treated like something you trod in by the wsop organisers. The problems with the wsop are well documented and they are trying to make changes this year but I for one wont be going along with quite a few I know of as there are many better events to play with a bigger EV. Even if you are freerolling on sponsors money (as I have been lucky enough to do) you still only get so much money for buyins each year and I feel it can be put to better use at many other events like the Bellagio festivals or EPT grand final.

Good post, i personally would much prefer i had the sposorship like ariston to buy in to the EPT final than the main event in vegas anyday!!! In fact in that respect, i guess thats why i hate TK even more of late coz of his DTD entry scheme! I love the EPT!!

Doesn't that assume they lose the 10k every night?

Don't forget Vegas is the worst place in the world if you are running bad and the best place when you are running good. In 7 bracelet events last year I didn't make a single dinner break. I went out with KK v QQ twice in no limit events and ran a rough 6 in the razz into a hidden wheel before finally getting 2 cold decks in level one of the main event . I am only intending playing the gukpt events this year and am annoyed with myself for missing cardiff as I wanted to donate in all of them. For a 10k buyin event I would much rather play the EPT final or the aussie millions than the wsop main event (I have played them all and their is much more value imo in the first 2 events).

You are mad Ariston, completely mad! I agree that the treatment of players by WSOP organisers could be improved but as for looking for a better tournament to play... I posted this on thehendonmob forum in reply to the same OP. Quote: Maybe they dont see the point in playing in a $10000 crapshoot The WSOP Championship event is the best tournament in the calendar (Harrahs excepted) and if I could only play one tournament a year that would be it. I know that many other players share this view. The only reasons that a player would miss the event are age or personal circumstances but never through choice. There are so many $10,000 stacks that just don't know what they are doing and this is the easiest event for a player to cash $million plus. I've just got to work out how to do it myself.
