Dan Brown books (Off Topic)
«

Any other readers of his work?
I liked "The Da Vinci Code" but was appalled by how inaccurate it is when it claims to be true. It has more holes in it than Djimi Traore's legs!
I have since read "Angels and Demons" and "Deception Point" and I think they are all almost identical!
Same plot as well. Smart bloke meets smart girl. They solve riddles and twists and shag at the end.
I used to be a Dan Brown fan but I'm getting bored quick. The hoax that is "The Da Vinci Code" has turned me right off that book too.
Will Digital Fortess be any better?

read them all, each is a good stand alone book, though there are parts where you just think "no way".
i.e. the bit in digital forest when the plane goes mach 12!!!
the davinci code is absolutely excellent though, truly awesome and totally factual (dunno where you got your info from baron), spins a new take on the christian church (no wonder they got upset).
all very good books if you can ignore the odd exageration

I enjoyed them for what they are...good thrillers that follow the same formula and same plot construction, narrative devices etc. I have read conflicting stuff about how much of the original book is based on fact. I take the sceptical line.
Now then Ifm, Ian Rankin, then that's another level entirely.....

I liked Angels and Demons the most - he is a tad formulaic, and I woudl rather see a film version of that than the Da Vinci Code.
Tom Hanks?? Who got paid for making that decision?

I enjoyed the Da Vinci Code - and Angels and Demons... the others not so much.
The only problem is, while brown is very good at creating his webs of intrigue, he seems to get to a point where he does a "and then EVERYTHING became clear - and they all went home

Who's been slagging Mr Rankin? He is one of the best crime writer's out there.

Although the TV version with John Hannah was a bit suspect, mainly because they cast John Hannah who is nothing like the character in the book. I hate it when I watch a TV series/Film of the book because it always ruins the image I have built up of the character in my head.

Unfortunately Da Vinci Code is completely false in terms of fact. Tony Robinson did a historical review on how legitimate the "facts" of the book were and basically he tore it to shreds. On the programme (The Real Da Vinci Code - Ch4) Dan Brown was unavailable for comment.
It was also uncovered that the blueprint for Da Vinci Code was an 80's book called Holy Blood, Holy Grail which was pulled apart by historians back then. It's not even an original hoax by Dan Brown I'm afraid, it's virtually plagirised.

Mike you are right, Hannah was completely miscast as Rebus...too young, too fresh faced etc
As an aside, Hannah played Rebus because he himself had bought the TV/Film rights of the Rankin books from Ian, a childhood school contemporary.
The perfect Rebus in my opinion would have been Ken Stott.

Dan Brown lists all his references in the da vinci code, including the one you say.
all he says is that it is all based on known historical fact, documentation, with some conspiracy stories thrown in.

True but the known historical "facts" weren't facts at all, the documentation was flawed, one was even a hoax in the 70's (the one that lists the leaders of the Priory of Sion no less! - Funnily enough an organisation that didn't even exist) and the conspiracy theories were disproved years ago.
I'll take the historians view over the novel writer's every time. (The same novel writer who claims that "all technologies in Deception Point exist" lol)
