though the historians don't agree with one another.

A good read, however these "prieure documents" on which the entire essay was based were found out to be a hoax by Tony Robinson.
Seriously if you can find it have a watch of Ch4's The Real Da Vinci Code, in it Dan Brown's spokesman is asked why they used these documents as "evidence" when they are a known hoax. He claims they aren't a hoax - then Robinson tells him the guys who made it even ADMITTED it was a hoax and again he tries to claim they are real. Outrageous! lol

i saw it, to be honest it didn't do much to debunk the theories, just said they were false, anyone can do that.

I'd have to disagree. The programme had mountains of real evidence. Guys admitting the priory list was a hoax they created, the true meaning of the words Sang Real/San Greal, the factual documents (which have since been dated) explaining Mary Magdelene's real role in Jesus's life, the proof the priory didn't exist at all, the art historians who explained Da Vinci's love for painting the feminine and his sexual preference - the evidence was damning.
On the contrary a few threories by a novelist dont hold a persuasive argument for me. In actual fact Dan Brown has little to no evidence in his favour for ANY of his theories - and the evidence he does have is flawed and questionable.
The thing that wound me up the most was the way at the start of the book he claims it's all fact! I was duped!
At the end of the day it's a novel. Exciting, unputdownable, brilliant, but still a novel.

Really? Wow, I started this thread by chance last night after reading Deception Point. (Although I'm not too sure about the claim to do with the technology in that one either!)
I've not heard much from Brown's argument to be honest but in the documentary there were two things Robinson could prove:
1) Mary Magdelene was an Apostle (according to the dead sea scrolls) but it makes no mention of her marriage/union with Christ. Furthermore it was NOT uncommon for Jewish men to be unmarried as DB claimed. However her being an apostle WAS probably covered up by the ancient church.
2) The Knights Templar were the first banking system, designed to stop robbery whilst ravelling.
Robinson was undecided on the Last Supper painting (was it Thomas or Mary?) but he said there was very strong evidence for both sides.
These 3 points aside there was not one theory of Brown's he could find evidence for. I cant remember all of it so I'll have to watch it again too.

it must have hit a raw note somewhere as the church issued a statement regarding the books content, something they have NEVER done before
