A couple of days ago I updated my Zone alarm firewall, I am now unable to open Outlook.  A window labelled 'ZoneAlarm Analyzing E-mail' opens but only with the option to cancel, this happens even when I disable the e-mail filter in the ZoneAlarm control panel.  Another window opens at the same time labelled 'ZoneAlarm - Outlook', this window says that Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close and gives me the option of sending an error report as well as a space to report details. I can access a report from here that shows a little table with the following info: Name - outlook.dmp, Description - Crash Dump, Type - DMP File, Size - 55475 KB.

I need my Outlook account! Does anyone know how to fix this? Ta muchly!

I know it's probably not highly recommended but have you tried killing zonealarm before opening outlook. It's not a long term solution but if you desperately need to send/receive and email just now, it should at least allow you to get that done and your unlikely to face any security problems if it's just off for 5 minutes

I don't need to access anything urgently, I have a couple of other e-mail accounts that I use more than Outlook, but I will still need it sooner or later.

These both seem to be similar to your situation, I don't have ZA on this machine so I can't test just now but you might get a solution here

If you have a router then shutting ZA down for a few minutes should be ok - the router will be rejecting most incoming traffic anyway (unless you have set it up not to of course).

If you're directly connected to the net then I wouldn't want to be without a firewall for that amount of time, the nasties are damn quick these days...

I haven't upgraded to the latest ZA yet, I think i'm going to switch to ghostwall and see how that performs, ZA has been starting to annoy me recently - seems it's getting a bit more bloated with every update.

If you run Mozilla/Firefox, then firewalls are utterly useless.
