A friend lent me a copy and it knocked my socks, read it in one sitting this morning! Its 50 years old so the strategy tends to cover games less prevalent these days and trying to make some of the suggested moves playing online draw would be suicide, like standing pat and bluffing whilst playing online draw would be a bit mental because no-ones paying attention anyway!  Yardley was a really interesting character and learnt to play from a local card sharp and then spent many years as a code breaker. He learned to really understand people and there motives, some of the life lessons and the stories are really compelling.

Apologies if everybody else knows about this and im just the last to catch up as always!

I only read it a bit ago - I agree it's definitely worth reading even if it is getting on a bit.

But E-books are evil - support the publishing industry buy the paper type Smiley

Why have you removed the reference to e-books - is it because you realised they were evil? Smiley

Kvnstv, why don't you write a book review of it for us?

we'd put it in with the other reviews, and your thoughts could be immortalised.....

Excellent book. He was a fascinating character old 'erb.

He caught a spy by playing poker. That's better than catching a gutshot straight flush draw. What a legend!!

Mind you if Sklansky had written it he could have told us the precise odds of him catching his spy on the flop.

maybe, but Sklanksy would also remind us that we had no right being in the position of catching the spy anyway, since we were not getting the right odds on catching a spy that day. More than likely he would say there were better opportunities in the times ahead to catch a spy...

and at the point Sklansky discovered the spy was actually a double agent and he needed to compute not only for implied spy catching odds but reverse implied spy catching odds, he spontaneously combusted.
