The post blinds every hand rule

This rule that some casinos have where if you're not at your seat for a round they make you post a blind every hand. It's completely insane right?

I mean if they had this rule at an online site nobody would play there. If you got disconnected for 10 minutes you'd be out. So why is this acceptable live?

Today was the second day of the £500 at the Rendezvous and the journey down there that had been taking me less than an hour for the rest of the week took two and a half hours due to very long traffic jams. The cardroom manager made the excellent decision IMO that as there were a few people caught up in this that she would delay the start by 15 minutes and only blind us off when it was actually our turn to post the blinds. This was prob quite a brave thing to do if she got moaned at like I did when I finally got there.

But isn't the Rendezvous owned by Harrahs? They don't blind Hellmouth off every hand when he turns up for the WSOP 2 hours late every year do they? They don't have this completely moronic rule at the WPT, EPT, APAT or GUKPT right? Isn't it time to get rid of this stupid rule? Could APAT do anything about it?

Anyway The Rendezvous is a cool casino with an excellent cardroom manager and I will certainly play there again.

Good to see you the weekend, & glad to see you made Day Two. Sorry I never said goodbye last night, but I busted out in rather exotic circumstances, (had TT v AQ, flopped the T first card.....) & decided it best if I beat a hasty retreat!

The "Rule" you refer to is plain daft, but is slowly being removed by most forward-thinking Venues. They did it to djinn - Jen Mason - at a Luton Fessie Final last year, but she was so steamed up at her late arrival, & loss of two-thirds of her stack to auto-Big Blind every single hand, she steam-rollered the table & went on to in it! I believe Luton have changed the Rule now.

Can APAT change it? APAT do not use that Rule - quite obviously - and the APAT Rules have been signed off by the Gaming Commission. We use our "own" Rules (in truth, an adaption of what we think are the best & fairest bits from most available or published Rules) at all our Events, & so they have now been used at, & presumably accepted, if not implemented full time, at an Aspers, The Broadway, a Grosvenor, & this weekend, in a Gala. That's good progress, in our view. Softly, softly, catchee monkey....

None of the Grosvenor tournaments have ever applied that rule in the time that i've been working for them. It's just the usual small blind, then big blind of every round.

At The Vic, in PL Hold'em cash games, you get a "missed blind" button, that amounts to the small and big blind whenever you miss the blinds, and you have to post that before you can contonue playing (Unless you come in on the big blind of course).

It WAS applied at Grosvenor Luton last year, in the UK Open Fessie which Jen won, & I have seen it applied at several other Grosvenors, too. But not recently.

Therefore, you wouldn't be in the situation of having to post the big blind in every hand if you were stuck in a traffic jam, as you simply wouldn't be allowed to play when you finally made it to the casino.

Correct, that "must be in your Seat" rule applies, in every Casino, (though some say "in the building", but "in your seat" is easier to manage) on Day One ONLY. Weird, but true!

Just to clarify, these "must be in your Seat/on the premises when play commences on Day One" rules are GC inspired. Blinding folks off every hand if they leave the table, or fail to arrive in time for the start of Day Two, are NOT GC-inspired, they are venue driven. Though I'm surprised the GC permit it.

I drove down on Thursday from Derbyshire - 5 hours.

I droive down again on Bank Holiday Saturday - 2 hours 45 minutes!

the rule is stupid

if i want to go sit out goto the toliet or go for a lap dance in the middle of an event i shoukd be able to

just the same as if i just want to pass every hand i should pay the blinds whent they get round to me and no more

i have seen me planning rush trips to the toliets in some casinos having to get a key from the cash desk having to wait to get the key

then get round the thronds of rouleete players get the key back to the cash desk retake my seat and told that i was away longer than 3 hands and its cost me a number of big blinds

tough - if you need the lavvy, then go during the breaks/before it starts.

In case it had escaped anyone's notice, you are there to play poker, not swan around the place taking breaks whenever you feel like it.

you can just image a forumla 1 driver taking a break when he feels like it - should all the other drivers slow down and wait for him ?

i thought poker wanted to be taken seriously as well...
