I nearly got done on one of these once

I put a lottery ticket on and went home, then i watched the lottery on bbc1, straight away i was suspicious, dodgy looking orange bloke presenting it.

then they proceed to call out my numbers, one after another, all six of them!!!!!! how dodgy is that?

I thought to myself this must be a scam, how thick do these people think i am?

Anyway i phoned them and they tell me ive won £6m blah blah blah(all the time i'm thinking..........how much is this phone call really costing me)

then theyre talking about getting a cab to lottery and shit, how am i getting a cab up town on a Saturday night?, thats at least £25, they mustve thought i was thick or something, i just hung up and threw the ticket away.

Same here, but what is worrying is that they have my full postal address too? There is only one sector of the net that I have entered this address, and that is to poker sites?

Congratulations Rich,

You have been randomly selected to receive a $500 e-check to be redeemed in the next 24 hours.

I am thrilled to bring you this official notice which confirms The Write-a-Check Committee's certification of Rich as a guaranteed eligible candidate. This is not in error. If you submit the winning check in accordance with the official rules of Write-a-Check you are guaranteed a prize award.

Even now, Rich, you probably thought this could never happen, that you could become A WRITE-A-CHECK WINNER. But it's absolutely true: ALL Prizes won in the WRITE-A-CHECK RANDOM SWEEPSTAKES are 100% GUARANTEED to be redeemable by the confirmed winners.

Congratulations and be sure to redeem this check before the 24 hours is up, otherwise the next eligible candidate will be contacted.

Regards,
John Dawson & The Write-A-Check Committee

Same here. We have to assume that a poker site has "sold on" it's database. Rest assured, it was NOT blonde!

I recently received a cd with a banner poster stating I had been given £1000 to spin up in an hour from a certain Yukon Gold Casino sent to my home address. Looks definetely like a poker site selling on personal data which is very wrong IMO.

Its completely unacceptable if some poker site has sold that information.  I received the same email from the imaginary John Dawson to both of my email addresses, with the first line of my home address in the subject line.

Information Commissioner's Office

These people look after the Data Protection Act

Obviously there are probably limits on what they can do to a company based outside of Britain, but also it's entirely possible that a site (or 2) has had it's data stolen rather than sold.
