Just back from the hospital where I have visited Brendan. I wont dwell too much on the last week or so but basically he had an operation on an artery and subsequently picked up an infection. He spent a couple of days in intensive care but is now being monitored in a general ward. He still has a little way to go but is making good progress.

He is very disappointed to be missing the Bash, but has told me to tell you all to make the most of this one as he is gonna win BB5. I was with him for over an hour and left when he was due to take some medication. In that time, we discussed various topics including poker, holidays in florida, horse race ownership, winning the Sunday Million (we'll he talked about this, sadly I could not!) and errrmm.... Gay Rights marches in Brighton

He's in good spirits and talking about trying to qualify for GUKPT in Brighton ...... that may be a bit ambitious but it gives you a flavour of his determination.

I took him up some poker magazines which was fortunate as he had asked his daughter to bring his poker mags up this morning but she couldn't find them. I also presented him with his Blonde Bandit baseball cap that he  would have worn at the bash and told him to hold onto it ready for BB5. He put it on straight away and I must say looked very fetching!

His sense of humour remains.... his message for the forum is that he's gonna play like a man possessed when he's back in action.... raise him at your peril!! He also thanks everyone for their thoughts and good wishes and was delighted to receive the calls this morning. His determination is very inspiring, and fingers crossed he'll be back in action soon.

Oh Belly, he says his bet stands. He thinks your prices stink though....

He was very touched to hear about all the good wishes posted on Blonde and thanks everyone. As an earlier post says, it's a great community and Brendan is at the heart of it.

I managed to chat to Brendan this evening, and as Glenn has said, he was in good spirits and said he really appreciates all the support and well wishes from the Blondes.

It seems he is enjoying the attention of all the young nurses !

As we all know, Brendan is a formidable fighter and is already planning a summer of poker, he refuses to let this thing get the better of him.

And his statement about winning BB5, i'd back him in an instant.

Here's to you Brendan

Thanks for the updates guys - good news.

I was feeling a bit grumpy this morning, but reading bigfella's post brought a smile to my face.

If anyone speaks to Brendan again, please send him my love.

Hi everyone.  I'm sitting with Brendan at the hospital as I write, and he would like to pass a short message on.  Before he does, can I say that he is looking fantastic and is in great spirits.  I'll do the typing (blackberry!), but over to Brendan.

Just to say guys I have been overwhelmed with the messages I've received and the visitors I've had since my little upset.  I've been out of intensive care and looking forward to beating this infection and getting back to seeing you all on the site.

And finally from Brendan!

I've stared down the devil and beaten him so no one should raise me again ever!!  Good luck and thanks.

Brendan.
