As a 'son of hender' I'm impressed that one of my ancestors crossed the Atlantic and started a new town. Pretty place too.

My ancestors tried to avoid being shot, hung, gassed, imprisoned or deported.

I came from the same place in Ireland my distant relative did many moons ago.  He's something like my great great great cousin.

if you go way way way way way back my ancestors were the same as your ancestors - so you never know we could be related. Now how embarrasing would that be!! Wink

But leaving my primate instincts behind me for a moment.......

My surname originates from the Gaelic surname Ó Dubhghaill, which means "descendent of Dubhghall". The name Dubhghall means "dark stranger" in Gaelic.

I'd like to think i'm a bit more civilized than my ancestors!!

my great-great-great Grandfather (mother's side) was Big Ben

Sir Benjamin Hall, Commissioner of Works who designed said clock tower.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Hall%2C_1st_Baron_Llanover

sadly he was Welsh, and I am half-Welsh. I don't use any Hon. prefix to my name and my mum was not Lady xxx though as the Baronetcy lapsed due to lack of sons in one generation
