Ok, here's the last of my overly long & much overdue "explanations" for today, & I think this one brings me up to date.
I intended to Post this story weeks & weeks ago, but time beat me, as ever.
Part 1
.
I found myself between a rock and a hard place last week. As we all well know, we are pretty strict on blonde about spamming, "self-interest" stuff, & I have to lead by example.
Last week, Sporting odds.com held a Festival at Gutshot, "The London Poker Masters". It was, IMO, newsworthy, simply because they had added £10k to the Main Event, something we have all bleated on about for ages. I played 3 events, cashing in two, & 13th in the other, & I was as pleased as a happy thing. But I only posted a little bit about it it, here & there, & not as much as I woulda liked.
Why did I not post more?
Part 2.
Aboot 4 months ago, I was approached by Sporting Odds.com. They wanted me to write some articles for their site, & do (hold on the giggling for just a little while longer please...) do some, ahem, "Pro Tips" for them. We agreed the deal, & we were up and running in August. It's more than just writing stuff for their site, other by-products" of the deal are.....
When they send qualifiers to Main events in mainland Europe, which they often do (and was how I met their top man), someone from Headquarters is required to go out to the Venue to look after the qualifiers, generally make sure they are ok, comfy, give them "support". It was suggested that as I would be at the Fessie anyway, on blonde's behalf, I could do this role. In return, they would put me in events from time to time.
And they wanted help & advice on other matters, which they felt I could assist with. An example of this was their first "Pro-Am Sit 'N Go" at The Palm Beach in London on Thursday. I asissted with setting this up, introduced SO.com to Palm Beach, suggested the structure & clock, helped sort the meal arrangements, that sorta thing. And on the night, it was my job to help the qualifiers feel comfy, ensure they had a good evening, be a sort of Ambassador for the site. It was a £500 entry thing, & as they deemed me to be a Pro (What?!) I paid my own entry fee, but luckily I finished 3rd & got £1k.
For the London Poker Masters, they generously sponsored me for the Main Event, & there was an expectation that I would be there for as much as the fessie as poss, wearing a SO.com shirt, by way of "supporting" them.
To be sponsored, even if only for the odd event now & then, was a dream come true for me, so I wanted to shout about it from the rooftops, I was absolutely made up, but I had this problem see - the conflict of interest with the "no spanmming" policy on blonde. It is NOT a conflict of interest as such, but it IS if I have not made my position with SO clear to the blondeites.
So, though I have been with them for over 3 months now, I don't think I have EVER, prior to last week, even mentioned them on blonde. That's right & proper, & SO.com knew my position on that before we signed the deal - I told them I could not span for them on blonde, but I coluld do so elsewhere, in print media, for example. Hence, therfore, no Tourney Report yet, because it would have been improper to have written it for blonde without you guys not knowing the score, & the fact I was wearing two hats, so to speak.
So there you go, that's all clear now, & I shall write a Tourney Report. And in future, you'll know where you are at if I mention Sporting odds.com.
What I will never do though, on blonde, is tell you that SO.com is a good site, or a bad site. But I will now be able to report what I consider to be genuine "news" about them, which I do consider their added money event last week was.
OK, you deserve a laugh at my expense after wading through all this, so heres a link to "my" page on SO.com. I dread to think of the flaming I'm gonna get from At-It, Ariston & co when they see not only my Pro-Tiips, but the subject I chose this month. By the way, the articles are monthly, so my next piece for them goes up on Monday or Tuesday.
http://www.sportingoddsgames.com/c/content/poker/kendall-tony.htmlAnd don't even THINK about the bit where it says "so if you want any advice on poker tips from tikay, write to him at.....". It's a funny old world, 'innit? I know, I'm the jammiest geezer in the world. It'll all end soon, I'm sure, but what fun it's been.
