This clip shows the excerpt from Panorama - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab8hpHY9zDQ

The link that Sark posted is from the Scientologists' own camera (note it's from the other side of the pair). They put it up on Youtube themselves in an attempt to discredit the BBC piece before it was aired. As you can see, it's very selectively edited.

You can see from the BBC footage what led up to the outburst. Scientologists are trained in psychological techniques which are designed to provoke angry emotional responses in others. This is used to trick people into joining them. They encourage the mark to bring up negative emotional responses (anger, sadness, loneliness etc) and then show this as evidence of deep-rooted psychological problems which only Scientology can help to cure.

South Park did a good bit showing exactly what Scientologists believe in - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAmEO-oLHzA

Note that the Scientologists keep this information secret until you've given them about $100,000 (because by then the mark has made such a financial investment that they are less likely to admit the ridiculousness of the story to themselves).

Scientology is one of the fastest growing religions in certain parts of the US ,  I know very little about any kind of religion as I have only been to church a couple of times in my life,  it should be interesting to watch this tonight.  It is good to get the view of other people, even if I would never practice religion myself

Sorry,  I didn't mean to post a biased view from the side of the Scientologists,  I clicked on the first link on youtube I came to,  I should have read it before posting and tried to select a link that took no side.  I have no view either way,  I know nothing about that particular religion and after I watch tonight's show I may have a better understanding.

Hmmmmmmm, isn't a religion more a cult? Don't you have to pay to worship, isn't that a cult

Scientology is a cult rather than a religion, and doesn't, to my knowledge, involve going to church.  It is a fascinating subject though, and I'll be recording this to watch later.

great minds Smiley  Yes, it costs a fortune to do even the most basic 'courses' that will allow you to become a scientologist.

Scientology does involve going to church. My friend Dan, who liked gently to poke fun at other people's beliefs, went to one of their services once (at the Goodge St branch, if anyone in the London area is interested) and he said it was the singular most bizarre and unusual religious service he'd ever been to.

I love the fact that on the Wikipedia discussion page about this, they have had to put a 'This is not a joke' notice at the top because of all the editors who think the page is some kind of wind up.

L Ron Hubbard said "The best way to make a million dollars is to start a religion." before promptly proving it by founding the church of scientology...
