some of my friends who are season ticket holders at old trafford seem to think this is the limit they will be spending on transfers thanks to the glaziers - they will bring in other signings but no more big money ones.

liverpool and chelsea have shown that defence starts from the front through the midfield  hargreaves will help in this dept

but is this not the role they have carrick playing?

If they bring hargreaves into the united midfield, who do they drop - giggs, ronaldo, carrick or scholes?

Fletcher?

I reckon they will go with Hargreaves and Carrick holding with Scholes in front of them.  Ronaldo and Giggs wide with Rooney through the middle.  This will most likely be used in Europe especially away from home, in the EPL v weaker opposition then they can adapt the formation accordingly.

If United bring in a Torres or a Villa then I can see them retaining the title next year.  Hargreaves is at least 50% overpriced!

ahh the old 4-5-1 formation away from home in the champions league - probably the worst away record in europe bar celtic!! Cheesy

personally i think he has to stick with 4-4-2, rooney is far better playing with someone along side him. Sometimes playing as a lone striker he starts dropping back to much when he feels he's isolated up top on his own, he's much better facing goal than with his back to it.

If Carrick was worth 18.6m then there's not a lot wrong with this price for me. I rate Hargreaves a lot more.

Utd new a few decent squad players. Their first 11 is the best in the Premiership. Cover for Ferdinand and Vidic is needed but I've always wondered why Fergie wont play Heinze there as Argentina do. Evra has come on really well this season.

Utd's problem is in 2-3 years when Scholes/Neville/Giggs and Van Der Sar all go.

As already mentioned O'Shea, Fletcher, Brown, Silvestre etc don't cut it.

Is it any wonder Wenger goes for decent foreign players when Englishmen are being sold at these prices?

Maybe Wenger doesn't want to sign another Francis Jeffers!

Goalkeeper is a problem position for United IMO.

I don't think Van Der Sar has had a good season, and i'm not convinced by Foster.
