From my brief reading of the thread it is my understaning that all the tournaments are online, is this correct?

If it is - Do Betfair vet people when they open an account on the site?

I dont have a betfair account so what is to stop me opening one as a female?

Matt, they probably wouldn't even find out that you're not actually human.

ahh you see but at the moment there are no "human only tournaments" or "non-human only tournaments" (though as i type this no doubt someone somewhere is thinking of a scheme to bring us the SPT - Safari Poker Tour and someone is becoming an agent to the good looking animals to ensure they get more TV exposure)

The tour is live.  Betfred are hosting online satellites for the live events.  There is nothing to stop you opening a 'female' account online which is why they decided it was pointless to try and claim only women were playing them.  If a man were to win a seat, he is required to give Betfred the name of the woman he is giving the seat to and the venue she'd like to play at.  On the day of the live event, the woman will have to provide photo ID matching the name which was turned in.  Not an ideal situation but better than no online satellites at all.

All that said and out of the way, when I mentioned this thread to my husband last night, he laughed.  For the record, he's against women only comps and you can imagine the fun we have in this house at times.  His take on it?  'Are you seriously arguing about who's on the other end of a computer?!  What's to stop a man playing on his partner's account?  Who's going to prove the woman with the account was the one playing on the night and not a man?'  How many of you have met someone from the forum in person and thought to yourself, 'Not at all what I expected'?  At the end of the day, Betfred have been forced to throw the arms up and admit there's no way to be sure online, but they will be sure on the day of the live event.

If the tour is live then fair enough - you'll never stop online qualifiers not being who they say, i reckon a good 10-15% of the last WSOP main event field online qualifiers got someone else to qualify on their account for them just so they could go.

maybe i should start a new service - for 10% of the satellite fee up front and 10% of any winnings made i will qualify people into main events through online satellites Smiley

Hi all.  It was decided, after a bit of debate, that trying to keep tabs on the runners every night would be too much hassle.  The end result...anyone can enter the satellites and anyone can win.  If it happens to be a male, they have to transfer the prize to a Woman.  I did not go into this intending to lead anyone wrong and was caught for a hop as much as anyone else when I realised anyone can enter the satellites.  It was news to me earlier this week as much as it was to everyone else.  That said...I'll still play as often as I'm left, I'll still try as much as I have to and I'll still appear at most (if not all) live comps in the tour.  I consider the online satellites 'practice' for the big ones.  I don't care who's at the other end of the computer...all good in the end.  If anyone feels they were mislead, it was not my intention.  I am not being paid to promote these.  I just go with what information I have in front of me and I believe in the end result.  Blind fool?  Maybe.   Happy?  Very definitely yes.

ty for the clarification laxie.

sounds more feasible today.

i hope the tour is a roaring success.

Thanks for the support!  Not always easy being 'the messenger' but you've asked very valid questions and been fair in dealing with my replies, so I truly do appreciate that.

Cheers!

Hi Laxie, I am sure it was not intentional that we were misinformed but IMHO this just makes a mockery of the whole "womans poker tour"

As you posted it is a way of encouraging woman into the game who might not otherwise play...me being one of them as my live experience is very limited.

I actually find it rather insulting that men are being encouraged to "win a seat for their partner", is this not insinuating that men are better players than women.

As you said its all practice fun because at the end of the day the its the woman who has to sit at the table but it has definately put a dampener on the whole thing if you ask me.

I agree totally Suzanne - although I disagree with womens tourneys totally, at least, if they are to exist they should be run corectly.

Does this mean it's ok for any wins on Betfred to be transferred to another player?Huh?  I doubt it.

I feel sorry for Laxie because I'm sure this is not what she envisioned and although (as I have said many times before ) I dislike these comps I'm sure she didn't expect this.

I am staggered that no one is venting at how bad this is - allowing other players to win your satts for you?!? Come on guys - surely I'm not the only one that's astounded by that??

Nope, its been going on since the advent of online poker satellites - some people know they may not be good enough to qualify and give someone who is enough of a bankroll to win seat for them.

They don't care if they crash out playing badly, if for instance its the main event at the WSOP then chances are the package includes hotel accomodation and flights for two weeks in vegas - not bad for a couple of hundred dollars.

that argument  actually validates the counter point imho.

sites cant screen  every player,   yet for the online ladies sats at ladbrokes   they   managed to do exactly that.

another strike against  playtech  methinks     not the tour, and certainly not laxie.

Lovely bubly, so what i need is some bloke to play for me to qualify? I think men are better at everything they do, therefore I would even go 1 step further and suggest that on the live tournement any man in a drag should be allowed to play

I will send en e-mail to some friends as we talk.  I can't play on those sites as I am mac user.  Any man who is fairly good, please send me a pm and we can make a deal....
