Ladder games

I'm sorry to be so dumb but I'm not doing clever this week and I can't understand this ladder game thing.

Can someone please explain it? It sounds like something I should be involved in (?) as it means a cheap start but possibly a great result in the end I think but I'm really not with the programme here.

ive played in 'rounders' tournaments before and i think it is the same thing.
basically you can enter at any level 1,2,3,4,5 it might be say $3to enter level1 then if you win you enter level 2 for free and so on.. or you can buy in at level 3 and this maybe $50 or whatever .. hope this helps

They're just a series of Single Table Tournaments where you can win a decent cash prize for a small entry fee.

You can start at any point, but just say you enter the $5 STT.

Well, if you win that, you automatically get a place in the, say, $20 STT. Win that, and you get an entry into a $100. And so on...

There, of course, will come to a point where you no longer win a seat into the next comp on the ladder, but a cash prize, which by now will be pretty big in relation to your initial entry fee.


Take the Ladbrokes cruise ladders for example. You can pay $4 (I think) and if you are fortunate to win several STT's in a row, you will have a seat on the cruise. It's a longshot, but it's cheap. From what I recall, the final rung on the ladder is a $2500 5 man STT.

These ladders are often token based. So if you win the $4 Ladder STT, then they may give you 20 tokens to use as you wish.

(following is based on my observations of the laddies 4 level ladders):

Most people play really badly in the first stages as they don't adjust their play to take into account that you only have to finish in the top 3 to qualify and don't get any extra for winning; make sure you take this into account.

I've seen people the 2 chip leaders tangle with 4 players left and one player very short stacked an sitting out.

I've qualified without playing a hand before, had no hands to play with and was getting to the stage where I was going to try to make a move when the others killed themselves for me.

I'm with it - I think - I like the idea of a cheap cruise - and that's not one that has anything to do with Stelios.

The arguement against ladders is that you are tied into the competition, as the tokens awarded suggests. Another option is to go into a chaep SnG, use winnings to tke you to a pricier SnG etc.. If you find the higher priced tables to tough you have the maney to bank instead. The Ladbrokes Ladders have a difficult structure as well.

I have notcied that the Ladbrokes tokens for the cruise can be refunded at the end of the promotion.

So you might as well just play the normal ones.

Having said that though, blind levels go on time rather than hands which means that skill prevails more frequently.
