In a recent game, I got to a position where I was short stacked and looking to push in.  A 10 suited and I did just that...  I got 3 callers... Main pot  and 3 players in a side pot...  Player 1 and 2 checked..  Player 3 put in a sizeable bet...  (Player 3 ofter bluffs)...

Player 1 folds, but player 2 calls and at the same time says to player 3 "you are not checking this down then?"..

Player 3 then checks the turn and the river to my complaints..  I also went out...

Player 3 is not experienced enough to know about checking down to get better odds against a small stack..

To me this is a form of collusion, but I may be wrong..

At the time, I really just did have a single chip in my stack (or is it a stack when there is only 1 LOL)...  The same could have happened when I had a lot more, but my question is...  What can I do in this situation while I am still sat there and hear 2 players chat to take me down?

Cheers
Carl..

He would only let someone else do the work then turn up when the cameras do and love the glory.

Perhaps you just didnt express yourself well but

There are 2 reasons to check in this kind of situation:

a) You dont have a hand and there is no sidepot, so betting generally won't accomplish much

b) It is close to the money or on the bubble and by betting you will get other players to fold and make it more likely the allin player will survive which may not be in your interests (if you are chip leader you might think it is in your interest to bet)

Player 3 probably didn't bet again because he felt he was behind after being called and not because of the comment, so I doubt if it made any difference.  Something blatant like one player saying that they shouldn't bet when the flop comes out would be cheating.

Actually what happened here was I had 1 chip, and came across A 9 suited...  so played it...  The question I was asking, was not should I play or not, but, what can I do if this siuation happens again in the future, where I feel that the comments from player 2 were in a way a collusional comment in order that 2 or 3 versus me would take me out easier...  To me that is a rule break and I do not know what options I have at the time that it is happening and the hand is being played...Huh?

OK, so I re-read your replies and same as the first time, not exactly seeing an answer..!!  What would you do if someone "cheated" and made the other person check it down to the river? (Player 3 always bets to the river and never checks, but did so on this occasion because he was prompted to)..

Shogun's question really is, if you take ouot everything else, can a player lawfully "entice" others to check it down? And what redress does he have, if "no" but he has still done so?

I said that if it was blatant it would be cheating - this wasn't blatant - it sounds to me like a sarcastic comment rather than a suggestion - there is no way that someone stupid enough to "bet to the river on every occasion" would understand what was being apparently suggested to him and why.  Particularly when he has now created a side pot that is more valuable than any equity gained from knocking you out.

You should call the cardroom manager over immediately and tell him what was said.  What happens after that is pretty much a lottery.........
