I was pottering along this morning, sorting stuff out and onto the radio came the following poll...

Which of these three professions do you trust the least?

Estate Agent

Tabloid journalist

Politician

All scored "highly" ("lowly?") but the overall result surprised me

Which do you trust least, and why?

Estate agents just try to fleece you as much as they can, Tabloid journalists can be very economical with the truth and twist scenario's to benefit their own views but Politician's can tell bare faced lie's regarding policies that have no intention of undertaking.

Therefore Politician for me.

I actually believe a lot of politicians are genuine, just too many bad eggs.
Went for estate agents after being personally screwed by a couple.

Conveyancing solicitors

(I'm off to wash my hands after just typing that)

Me 'I don't like that clause 3.6. Please ask the other party to remove it'
MY CS Scumbag 'It's part of our standard T's and C's'

This is MY solicitor, who thinks its also a good idea to act for the person buying the house off me.

*scum*

Not all of them. This one, certainly.

Estate Agents - Their job is to act for the guy selling a house.  In doing this they are making money for themselves.  So a good EA canbe honest and still do the job well.   Most crappy EAs are dishonest, they're just lazy, and can't handle negativity, so they say what you want them to  say.  Most buyers expect the agents to be acting for them, which is were much of the problem arises.

Tabloid jounos - Are there to write a story based on facts.  Fewer and fewer seem to check the facts in their stories before they print them.  But most stories that are out and out fabrication are not going to affect the world.  Is Robbie Williams gay or not ? who cares, except the people involved.  Yes, many journos lie, but I believe more damage is done by editors twisting stories.

Politicians - Represent us, the voters.  Only they don't.  Pretty much as a breed they are there to carve out their own careers.  The successful ones want to be seen on the media, and as such they have no opinion on Mrs Jones' waiting too long for her operation.  They want to be seen being IMPORTANT.  Mrs Jones is just  an annoyance that needs action only when the national media need appeasing.  The lower levels copy the actions of thos at the top.  Tony Blair is a liar, who's lies affect the lives of people thoughout this country.  But he doesn't care.  Why should anyone beneath him - they've seen the way to the top.

PS .  I voted politicians as the worst , just in case it's unclear.

I deal with MP's on a daily basis, and have also been fortunate enough in the past to have very good constituency MPs.  I don't think it's fair to say that anyone with a desire to be a politician is motivated by self interest - there are some very good local MPs around who go out of their way to help their constituents - I know, I see it.  Most of them will be the ones the majority have never heard of, and would not recognise in the street.

so who would do the job?

Tabloid Journalists, these guys write lies and peddle rumours for a living.  The ones I dislike most are the Sports journos, who try and recreate the truth.  I love it when you pick up the back page of a paper every morning and there is a new "Exclusive" these guys then brush over the facts with an air brush as soon as their story is disproved as a load of shit!

If I printed an "exclusive" made up lie every day that at least sounded plausible, I am sure in the long term I'd get one ofr two right, these journos then type up self appraisals when they get the correct result and lambast their rivals when they get something wrong.

So for me Tabloid Journalists are the scum of the earth!

Having said that, I've just remembered something that happened back when I was about 24.  I'm a little ashamed about my actions to be honest.  I'd met a friend of a friend at a night out, and he got hold of my email address and asked me out for dinner.  He'd seemed pleasant enough, so I agreed.  I found out before the date that he was a Tory councillor, and was standing for parliament in the forthcoming elections (only a month or two away at that stage).   I cancelled the date deciding it was a non-starter and we'd probably end up having a row on day one.

I'd like to think now that I'm older and wiser I'd have at least gone through with meeting up, and maybe had some interesting debate (although I'm still pretty certain it wouldn't have gone any further!)

was the poll taken by 1st time buyer homeowners that had read articles in the mail about how this is a great time to jump on the property ladder only to find the council changed the rubbish removal dates from weekly to fortnightly a little while after they moved in?

I voted politician.

There are few politicians that give their true opinion when asked and are therefore naturally deceptive. It should be OK for them to have an individual opinion as well as a party opinion.

Although i don't like labour much these days, I think Tony Benn is a wonderful exception to the rule and he has my respect.

Tabloid journalists you can trust.....that they are lying.

Estate agents are often double glazing salesmen in disguise but no worse than that.
