planning trip to vegas

Hi all, can anyone advise me on booking a trip to vegas, where to look? where to stay...where NOT to stay lol, what not to miss while there etc ...4 adults 5-7 days mid july onwards, any info would be greatly appreciated x

Wow...leaving it late aren't we? Flights are sky high (no pun) right now.

It's predictable, but try a Flight & Hotel package from Expedia or Travelocity.

If you try and book it separately, it can be done easily enough but probably not cheaper. If it's your first time, DEFINITELY stay on the Strip but if price is an issue, you can still do it with confidence at one of the smaller on-Strip properties. Imperial Palace or Bill's Gambling Hall are basic but decent.

If price is not a real factor then try Caesars/Venetian/MGM Grand (I'd give the Bellagio a miss, way over-priced).

I wouldn't suggest the downtown area to stay in or the Stratosphere which describes itslef as on the Strip, but it ain't.

Oh, one final thing, the WSOP is on until 18th July, I think, rooms will free up after that which may drive the price down.

both times I've been I've shopped about and not found anything cheaper than booking through lastminute.com (but have only looked at packages with direct flight from Gatwick).

First time I stayed in one of the Augustus Tower rooms at Caesars and it was fantastic.  Tighter budget last time and stayed at the Luxor - the rooms were pretty basic, but still convenient for the strip.  On balance I think I prefer the other end of the strip though, so if was going on a lower budget again would probably try to get in somewhere like the flamingo or ballys for a similar price.

: Imperial Palace (opposite Caesars)
: £677 per person (2 per room) including Flights with Virgin.

Virgin's own website is quoting £572 just for the flight!

would recommend the treasure island, a bit smaller than most hotels, but really good service, and casino is nice (with brand new poker room).

you can sometimes get good deals there.


what not to miss - the grand canyon", or the  red rock canyon - tons of packages available, book them in your hotel.

Ahh thanks so much  nun & everyone for being so helpfull, planning on going anytime after wsop, first visit to vegas for us all & thinking it could be a bit manic at the moment..although i would really love to be there now.....  Being the only one in group who plays quite regular my plan is to get evryone sozzled through-out the trip so i can sneak away to play till my hearts content lolol. I have even told my fella he can look at as much norkage as he likes without any repercussions!!!!!!! as  long as he dosn't complain about me playing a few tourni's. I can't be any fairer than that lol.  Dates for travelling...anytime after mid july onwards,  preferably manchester, 5-7 days.

Would also love to here anyones most memorable day/evening spent in vegas....

BMI offer a direct service to Las Vegas from Manchester on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (Thursdays, Sundays for winter 07/08) and offer a connection via Chicago for the remaining days of the week but they aren't cheap (c.£740)

Otherwise, you're likely to get routed through London anyway.

airtours (yes they do still exist, but dont seem to like to shout about it!). 7 nights in the New York New York with flight from manchester for 800 quid.

I tend to avoid expedia apart from using it for the hotel information on there which is good. Opodo is better.
The best option I often find is to book as much as you can in dollars. To vegas it probably only leaves the accomodation but through vegas.com there are often savings to be made.

Cheapest i have seen for the 25th  to 29th july man / las Mytravel aka Airtours 454 incl tax. I just went with them on a laty for 362 ish for both of us, so not that cheap but not too exp either for the time of year.
