nowt to do with poker, but do you think it will ever be possible to have a reasonable debate on any of our media about "Global Warming" (or as its now called "Climate Change"), without involving people with an agenda and a huge vested interest (you will recognise them, they have beards and wear tweed).

Some guy was allowed to close a "debate" there, talking about rising sea levels by saying "you might as well take the current worst case scenario, and double it", without any right to reply given to anyone. There is no other subejct that this would be allowed with. We constantly see scientists with opposing views silenced, ridiculed, and given about 1% of the airtime of their "pro-green" counterparts. What do they have to hide ?

I do not know who is right - but I sure would like to hear more balanced reporting and debates on the subject. The less balance I see, the more suspicion I have.

I have so many questions - If we have been destroying this planet for 200 years, do you seriously believe that me putting my TV off standby is going to save the planet ?

My outlook on it is what Flying Pig said, and nature has a way of fixing the wrongs on this planet. I agree with recycling things, turning my tv off and so on because they are things that everybody should be doing anyway, and its not difficult, but in terms of whats going on in the world, China are building on average 5 new coal power stations per day, turning your tv off is not going to change the overall outlook in my opinion, but as we live on a very small island everybody should try and do as much as they can to keep this island as clean as possible..

My opinion anyway...

In one part of it they ask the scientists if they have such allegiances and they all say no!!!!?

There is a funny bit at the beginning that infers that Maggie Thatcher propogated the idea of Global Warning to bring down the Miners!!!!!?

as somone once said to me earlier this year "it's a bit arrogant of the human race to think we are soley responsible for changing the climate!"

The Earth has been warming up & cooling down for millions of years & it will continue to do so. We've had heatwaves, floods, warm winters & extremely cold winters in the past, but they weren't down to climate change, just the bloody awful British weather!

I find it interesting that the only way the politicians of this country can think of "saving the planet" is to tax the people more money, without explaining how that money would be spent stop us from destroying the earth.

Anyway, I blame the vegetarians of the world. If they ate meat, there wouldn't be so many cows, all farting at once & making a big hole in the O-Zone!

I've gone to do a little research now.

First thing I have found is one of the scientists claiming that his views were misrepresented and he was completely misled as to the programmes aims!

Quote
In the part of the "Swindle" film where I am describing the
fact that the ocean tends to expel carbon dioxide where it is warm,
and to absorb it where it is cold, my intent was to explain that
warming the ocean could be dangerous---because it is such a gigantic
reservoir of carbon. By its placement in the film,
it appears that I am saying that since carbon dioxide exists in the
ocean in such large quantities, human influence must not be
very important --- diametrically opposite to the point I was making---
which is that global warming is both real and threatening in many
different ways, some unexpected.

Quote
Eight of the scientists in the film - John Christy, Paul Reiter, Richard Lindzen, Paul Driessen, Roy Spencer, Patrick Michaels, Fred Singer and Tim Ball - are linked to American neo-conservative and right-wing think-tanks, many of which have received tens of millions of dollars from Exxon.

Quote
Several interviewees who appeared in the film felt they had been misled about the programme-maker’s agenda. Responding to complaints, the Independent Television Commission (ITC) found that the editing of interviews with four contributors had "distorted or misrepresented their known views". I've forgotten where i read it, may have been here, but supposedly in the 50's some meant to be secret government think tank came up with some suggestions as to how they can keep the masses under control, one was to be at war, another was to invent a huge forthcoming disaster. Good for raising taxes as well of course.

I think that disaster is far more likely to be something else - not something that stops people being mindless consumers!
