Israel has always been a funny one for me. I live in an area with most probably the highest density of Jewish people in Yorkshire and I married a Jewish lady. Thankfully she does not live in fairyland (like most of other Jewish people I speak to who seem to have been brainwashed in believing one story and never want to hear anything else) and understands Israel's blatant taking the piss. If Israel was a non Jewish state America would be looking to invade it because of it's atrocities. I am sick of the amount of times the Israel government defends killing innocent people with lame excuses, "ohh there was terrorist behaviour" i.e someone threw a rock and we nuked the town because of it. You simply cannot defend Israel's tactics ATM.

Exactly, 'Israel' and 'Jews' are not interchangable terms. Israel has continually played the 'anyone who criticises us is an anti-Semite' card, using the Holocaust as a one size fits all carte blanche to oppress people whose land they have illegally invaded.

What next Flushy, Holocaust denial ?

Then Blair steps down and decides Brown should take over. Who voted for Brown again?

His constituents did.

I think the good idea would have been not to create the state of Israel and arm it to the teeth in the first place....

And how long do you think The State of Israel would have lasted had it not been "armed to the teeth" ?

It is worth bearing in mind that the Israeli armed forces are called the IDF, Israeli Defense Force.

Yeah so if it hadnt been created we wouldn't have all the civilians dying!!

Oh and HAMAS means "Islamic Resistance Movement" can't both just be defending!

What next Flushy, Holocaust denial ?

lol well your sole base for argument was that IDF has Defence in it, the same defence works for HAMAS.

No i am not a holocaust denier, in the same way i hope you don't deny all the horrible deaths the Israeli state has caused.

After World War I, the League of Nations approved the British Mandate of Palestine with the intent of creating a "national home for the Jewish people."[8] In 1947, the United Nations approved the partition of Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab.[9] On May 14, 1948 the state of Israel declared independence and this was followed by a war with the surrounding Arab states, which refused to accept the plan. The Israelis were subsequently victorious in a series of wars confirming their independence and expanding the borders of the Jewish state beyond those in the UN Partition Plan. Since then, Israel has been in conflict with many of the neighboring Arab countries, resulting in several major wars and decades of violence that continue to this day.

I wasn't around in the late 40's but it seems to me Israel's invasion is the root cause of these problems, not Hamas.

"Your sole base for argument was that IDF has defense in it"

Well that simply is not true James, did you not read my prior post about democracy not being equipped to deal with suicide-bombers ?

When I asked you "what next Holocaust denial?" I was merely demonstrating to you where your argument that " I think the good idea was not to create the state of Israel" was leading.

Too many people wallow in the rhetoric about the Middle-East with all too little knowledge of the true facts imho.

I am absolutely shocked at you stooping to that level Ralph.

The people who should know most about being the victims of attempted genocide are those perpetrating it now.  They're not in Holocaust denial - they've decided 'let's do it first' which is WORSE than denial.

I can't believe that you really think it's "Attempted genocide", get a grip Rod, that's the last thing they want to do.

Andrew, I'm surprised that someone of your intelligence would jump to such a ridiculous conclusion.

Wise words...unfortunately this goes for people on both sides of the arguement here.

I'm equally surprised you'd invoke the Holocaust to make a petulant response to a perfectly reasonable post from Flushy.

Well I will concede that one of our responses was petulant...

The Oxford English Dictionary records the word flapjack as being used as early as the beginning of the 17th century, but at this time it seems to have been some kind of flat tart or pan-cake.

Shakespeare refers to flapjack in Pericles, Prince of Tyre, but this is one of the many anachronisms in his historical plays and does not suggest that he thought it was a middle eastern dish, merely a common English dessert of the time:

"Come, thou shant go home, and we'll have flesh for holidays, fish for fasting-days, and moreo'er puddings and flap-jacks, and thou shalt be welcome."

        Act II Scene I

I keep to unusual hours.  I'm afraid they are plain if by plain you mean just golden syrup and oats and brown sugar.  No nuts or chocolate is what I'm saying.  Why would you presume such a thing?
