I saw mention tonight of Jim Britton, which was odd, because I was thinking about him a few days ago, having been reminded of him by seeing
Mike
Magee
at Luton over the weekend.
At one time, Mike had some sort of sponsorship deal which was brokered by Jim, I seem to recall - Corals maybe, I can't exactly remember.
Jim Britton was a massive forum presence on all Forums 5 or 6 years back, under various aliases based around "Celtic_Tiger". He was the most arrogant man you ever met, & where he Posted, (mainly THM in those days, which was not Moderated at th time) trouble always followed, with threats & all sorts.
The thing with Jim was that he was not just a keyboard warrior, being brave & flaming everyone from the safety of his PC, he was actually the same in real life.
Sharing a table with Jim was never pleasant - I think he invented trash talk - but he was easy meat, & quite hopeless at poker. Johnny Raab always used to stick him in the betting for every Event as 500/1, just to wind poor Jim up. And it worked.
He had a mega-Affiliate deal, as I recall, but they changed the parameters, he lost a shed-load of affiliate income, & I've never seen or heard of him since. He had a lovely missus, very pleasant she was, a very odd couple they made. Jim used to drink heavily at the poker Table, too, which is one of those things everybody hates, as he was very much an aggrressive drunk.
Last time I saw him was at Gutshot, I think, or maybe at The Vic, in about 2001, when he tried to tlt up
Barny
Boatman
, who subsequently bust him.
Later, after blonde started, he was desperate to cut some fancy deal with us, & pestered me for weeks, 'phoning up every day, time & time again. "This deal will make you millions Tony", he repeated endlessly. Eventually, I stopped returning his calls, but he persisted for an age. He struggled to read situations I think. I was in Vienna with Rhow & Dave one time, & he buttonholed us in a restaurant. One by one, we made our excuses & left, "just popping to the toilet" we each said, never to return. I doubt Jim noticed.
Camel apart, I doubt many on here will even remember him.
LOL I remember him. He loved that Corals shirt, pity they only gave him one
Im trying to remember the incident with Jim and his good mate The Camel about 5 years ago at a Luton festival.
Refresh my memory Keith please
Dubai would remember him too, from the Prima Rounders days
Tony do you remember the poster Jim " The Bandit" Britton on the HMF? Oh how he used to wind up the Celtic Tiger
I most certainly do!
The Bandit would just tease & tilt Jim (Celtic_Tiger), & there were several aliases deliberately created similar to Celtic-Tiger juyst to muddy the water. Trolling-Ville City.
Jim, as Celtic-Tiger, joined blonde, closely followed by several variations on the Celtic-Tiger name, & then "Jim The Bandit Britton".
Soon they were all at it, & Jim Britton called me up threatening to sue, & all sorts.
There was only Iron & myself at the time as Mods
, & we Banned him pretty sharpish I seem to recall. I hated Banning him, as I hate Banning anyone, so that was a taste of things to come, & the "afters" started straight aaway, with Jim dissing me on blogs & forums all over the place, but nice as pie to my face when we met on the circuit. I never got used to that sort of thing, & I never will.
there was only you as a mod at the time you just happened to let me use your account so you got all the blame for my mistake and took all the grief for banning jim etc etc
Oh yeah, so you did!
Do you remember the hoohah when we/you/I Banned Mark Strachan? Jeez.......I've made an enemy or two along the blonde Road, when I think about it.
i remember the hoohah when an old firm thread kicked off and you was in the middle of a game in luton (must of been about 10 mis in if you was half way through it) and i got shit from all quarters
i also remeber the call i got in the middle of the morning before you got into a plane to ask me to mod the forum for the first time as someone had been hit by a chair in gutshot and you was expecting it too kick off
just think of those years i could get back if my battery had been dead

I don't know
Mike
Magee
, but have shared a table with him a few times. Got a great record over a number of years but I believe he has suffered a few heart attacks and doesn't play a lot of the circuit any more because of health reasons. I was quite shocked therefore to see him smoking like a chimney in the breaks at Luton
Yeah, that surprised me, too. I thought he played most wonderfully at Luton last week, he had the kidz numbers from the off, & I was surprised he never Finalled. He has a very good record, you know.
He never much enjoyed playing at Luton last week though, as the Table Etiquette was quite dreadful, & that irked him no end. Folks were "talking in hands" they were not involved in, acting out of turn, & a bad Dealer Decision (not involving him) wound him up. He's very much Old Skool, & it's hard to adjust to the modern way where folks bring Online Etiquette to the Live arena. As he's not played much Live of late, the change in Table Behaviour must have been an unpleasant surprise to him.

I remember that!
The Gutshot incident involved a regular nipper, & Joe Grech, & someone hit somone else over the head with a chair. The next day, Barny Boatman on THM made the funniest quip I've ever heard, about nippers & occasional furniture, it was unforgettably funny. But I can't remember what it was now.
I was at Gutshot later that week, we were in the "Big" room, next door. They never served alcohol in there, you know, & Paul Parker, eager for his customary glass of red, kicked up & wanted to know why they would not serve alcohol at the Tables.
The hapless Waitress replied "because we don't have a licence to serve alcohol at the Table, Sir".
Paul replied, insta, "well you don't have a licence to run poker Tourneys, but that's never stopped you doing it".......
Paul went on to win the Event - an Omaha jobbie - after being down to 3 x BB early on.

On the subject of scathing comments - here's a story about the burlesque dancer on the talent show last Saturday night. Seems people have been complaining about it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8001223.stm
In defending against the claims, someone from ITV said "
it was felt that the overall effect was comedic rather than titillating.
"
Probably not what the girl wants to hear.
I think dancing whilst
holding those union jacks up
is praiseworthy.

His Act was bland formulaic tosh...
Poor Lennie Bennett. Is it right to flame a man's work on the forum?
Having said that is it right to flame a man's choice of jumper or hairstyle either? Both were pretty tez. Having said that, with a bad act, poor clothes, and a terrible hair-cut he still carved out a decent career for himself on the telly. That's a talent in itself.

Lennie Bennett - he of Lenny & Jerry - died last week. To be fair, if you ever saw his act, he was well-practised at dying.
He was one half of Lenny & Jerry, double acts were the thing at the time, with Morecombe & Wise, Cannon & Ball, Little & Large etc all at it. They were all pretty naff, though not as naff, dare I say, as Ant & Dec.
He came to fame on "The Comedians", as did Bernard Maning, Roy Walker, Mike Reed, Tom O'Connor, Jim Bowen, & Russ Abbott. Some Show that.
He split with his comedy partner, & slid down the ratings, ending up presenting Daytime TV on Anglia Television, which must be the very bottom of the Terrestial TV ladder, but made a good living on th After-Dinner Speaking circuit, before illness curtailed that.
He ended up in Blackpool or somewhere equally dreadful, with a market-stall burger bar named "Fat B'stards.
He died of a fall, aged just 70. Scary.
Only a year older than you Tony...

That I like.
I think we can all agree that considering my total lack of talent, I've done OK. I see myself as TV poker's equivelant of football's David Batty, or Carlton Palmer, both of whom aspired to be hopeless, but done pretty well for themselves. It's a niche market.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to do on The Dean thread....take the guy's side and have some fun with the haters. But then this simpson/sampson? whoever spoilt it by getting mardy, and then Tighty spoilt it by deleting the thread. In an instant the chance for mischief was gone. I reckon me and simpson would have won as well.
