What happened to the Waygood half of Waygood-Otis ?

They merged with Otis in 1914, & eventually, the "Waygood" prefix was dropped.

Otis, by the way, claim to be the world's largest mass transportation outfit, in that they move more people daily than any Railway, airline or bus service.

Jaw-Dropping stuff.

"The Times" carries a daily Law Report, & they have some stonking little gems in there.

They carried a Report last week about "Aspinalls v Al-Zayat". It was complicated, & the whole thing is not relevant to this Post, but it was about a gambling debt that would have normally been recoverable EXCEPT that Credit was extended (allegedly) via a cheque - or series of cheques, which may or may not have invalidated the validity or legality of the claim. The Court of Appeal presided, headed by Sir Anthony Saltley, Master of the Rolls, Lord Justice Sedley, & Lord Justice LLoyd. Anyway, forget all that, & take a look at these snippets fonm the Evidence.

On 10th March 2000, Mr Al-Zayat lost £2,000,000 (2 million pounds) on the tables at Aspinalls Casino in London. He was given that sum during the evening against "script cheques" & eventually gave Aspinalls a cheque for £2,000,000, though he disputed Aspinall's right to the cash.

Over 12 years, Mr Al-Zayat lost £23,000,000 (23 million pounds) at Aspinalls alone, & since 10th March 2000 alone he has lost £10,000,000 (10 million pounds) there.

The argument over the £2,000,000 Al-Zayat lost reached the Courts in early March 2006. That was, coincidentally (!) exactly THREE DAYS before the 6 year deadline for filing a claim in such cases. And after he'd dropped a further 10 million at Aspinalls.....

In total, Al-Zayat gambled £91 million at Aspinalls, upon which he lost £23 million.

He also got in dispute with the Ritz Casino, where he gambled away £10 million.

The Times described him in a news Report as " a man with a large waistline" (gotta love The Times) but the Casinos nicknamed him as "Fat Man".

He owns a Boeing 747 & a £150k Rolls-Royce, & makes his money by brokering Arms deals. He frequently tipped the Valets £5,000 a time.

Aspinall's said "we took this action with much regret, but Mr Al-Zayat is always welcome at Aspinalls". I bet he is......

More jaw dropping stuff

Plants use the power of sunlight to combine carbon molecules from the air, with hydrogen molecules from water to produce.... wait for it..... Carbohydrates. Wow!

Carbon + hydrogen + a little energy from the sun (photosynthesis) = carbohydrates.

Probably schoolkid stuff, but I just learned it today and it blew me away.

Jaw-Dropping stuff.

"The Times" carries a daily Law Report, & they have some stonking little gems in there.

They carried a Report last week about Luton G v Monkey Harris, a complicated tale, & the whole thing is not relevant to this Post, but over 12 months, Mr Harris lost £23,000,000 (23 million pounds) at Grosvenor Luton alone, & since 10th March 2007 alone he has lost £10,000,000 (10 million pounds) there.

In total, Monkey gambled £91 million at Luton G upon which he lost £90 million.

He also got in dispute with the Restaurant Manager, where he was finally refused a complimentary meal.

The Times described him in a news Report as " a man with a large waistline" (gotta love The Times) but the Casino nicknamed him as "Fat Man".

He owns a Boeing 747 & a £150k Rolls-Royce, & makes his money by brokering deals. He only tipped the Valets no more than 50p in total since he started going there.

Photosynthesis is actually a great thing to introduce someone to chemistry who had previously dismissed it as 'too hard' when they were at school.

You tell them that the chemical formula for glucose is C6H12O6 and them ask them how do they think it's made. You get a shrug of the shoulders. You then ask them if they know the chemical symbols for any other very common things.

Most people will come up with H2O for water. A bit of prompting (normally mentioning fire extinguishers) will get you carbon dioxide as CO2. The fact that oxygen molecules are normally found in pairs as O2 may well be something you have to tell them once they mention oxygen.

The fact there are six carbon molecules, six oxygen and exactly double the amount of hydrogen molecules in glucose will lead the person to work out there are six lots of 'stuff' involved. The H2O is fairly obvious (as everyone has experience of forgetting to water a plant, killing it), meaning the carbon has to come from somewhere.

Adding in the CO2 and letting the person rearrange things usually leads to 'but there's lots of oxygen left over - where does that go?' The realisation that the oxygen is left over and goes into the air for us to breathe results in a Red-Dog-like moment of 'Wow'.

I have a whole heap of stuff to write up from the weekend, but I'm wrecked, & have the mother & father of all headaches.

Stupidly, I went into Luton on the way home from doing the Sky Show last night, & I was poo-pooed today, especially after driving from London to Bristol & back twice on Saturday & Sunday.

Then I wanted to play the Red-Dog Daddy tonight, just because it was the Red-Dog Titled one, & that took me 7 hours straight, & I'm just totally pooped now. But $11k helps I guess, though right now, it does not feel that way.

This week's Diary is not too bad, the Sky Show on Monday, & again Thursday, then fly out to Waterford 0730 on Friday with Compo & wormster. I'm playing the Main Event, so I've got some Poker Week duties, & some blonde-duties, & we are staying until Monday night to do some filming.

I intend to try & get some rest out there, but with so many blondes going, I guess it'll be craic time.

I get back into Luton Airport Monday night, & I'm supposed to go to a Birthday celebration in London straight from there, for Anneka of Sky, she's a good kid.

Tuesday I hope to play the £300 Double Chance at Walsall's Midland Masters, my favourite Fessie of the year, but the Diary means that is the only Event of the Fessie I can play.

Then I do the Sky Show on Thursday & Friday nights, & drive straight to Birmingham after the Friday Show for the 2 day Virgin Fessie at The Broadway, which is gonna be a grueller, & is followed on the Monday by the Sky Show. Two days later, it's the DTD Media Night, with Poker Week, then the Sky Show on the Friday & Sunday, with the DTD £500 Tourney on the Saturday squeezed in between. Poker Week at The Vic is on the Monday, the Sky Show on the Thursday, & Paris with Poker Week for the Euro Awards on Friday & Saturday - & Poker Week have treated me to Eurostar both ways, God bless them!

Time just whizzes by, eh?
