Have you booked your November Vegas trip yet?

Sure have - fly out on November 7th! I booked late last week, I think.

You had that bink yet? Be good to see you there.

So you haven't then?  Wink

Actually, having thought about this a little I reckon that it might well now be a working-holiday rather than just a holiday.

The clue being that Tikay wasn't sure what date he has booked suggesting to this suspicious mind that his "people" have booked it for him and we all know who they are...

Case dismissed, Mr S.

I was vague - still am - because I actually cannot remember! It's deffo Nov 7th I go, I can't recall my return date. Think its around the time of the Venetian $2,500 Main Event.

Booked everything myself, too, though it did my head in, I HATED doing it, I'm so useless at that stuff.  Still need to book the Valet Parking @ Gatters, but that apart, I'm about sorted. Got a few thou $$$'s left over from last time, & some sterling ticked away from a few nice little cash game binks recently, so apart from changing some ££'s into $$'s, I'm about set.

I do hope you can make it. It's my maiden Vegas November foray, & I'm hopeful the climate will be more amenable than June/July, which I find overly oppressive.

When I got there last year during the first week in November it was ~85/90F. They were experiencing one of the hottest if not the hottest November temperature ever. Then suddenly a cold front moved in overnight it seemed and it was down to ~60C. I rember those police that ride on the stand-up scootays downtown were wearing wooly hats and thick gloves in the mornings as I was on my way to catch the deuce bus en route to The V for the noon start.

So my advice is take a few warmer tops with you. It's usually around 70C and very pleasant.

How did you find those Noon Venetian jobbies played, Ralph? As a fellow nit, I mean, obv.

Going 30 Oct to 13 Nov. Staying downtown but I'm planning a few visits to Venetian for their 3pm side events and a few Single Table sattys. Mostly going to be at The Nugget or Orleans for cash.

Hopefully bump into you while you're there Tony, pity you're not going Ralph Sad

I really enjoyed the way they played for the most part.

Much weaker fields than I was used to and a decent structure. November is traditionally the fishiest DS.

Does anyone know what Dave Pomroy, aka "dpommo" is doing these days? I heard he was doing some staking, but his once very readable Blog is awol these days.

He was very much one of the bigger names on the scene back in the day, maybe, for all I know, still is.

I chanced upon this photo of him when researching something else recently, & it set me thinking.

Mesrs Shallow, Pomroy, & Fox. Bet they three could tell a story or two......I bumped into Stu recently, he reckons the game is too aggro for him these days! Meanwhile, even Dubai has gone all wise & insightful these days, with some cracking one-liners. He really has been there, seen it, & done it, but seems to have settled to near-normality now. Mellowing with age comes to us all, I guess. Sorry, Dave.....

As to "mellowing", I was introduced to this rather interesting looking gent this week. I did not have the faintest idea who he was, & had to wait until I got home to google him, but eveyone was oohing & aahing about him.

It seems he is famous for associating with famous people, & has no Celeb skills as such, but good luck to him, if he makes an honest living, fair play. I must say, he was faultlessly polite, with good social skills, but that apart, once I had done the google search, I was distinctly underwhelmed. Pretty sure it was mutual. I'm the one with the bins, if you were in doubt.

Mr David Gest, who was in Gala Leeds of all places, pumping the slots, when we met. Not sure who was less likely - or pleased - to be in Gala Leeds, to be honest. The words "poker" & "Gala Leeds" exist uncomfortably in the same sentence.

Possibly the best words I've read in your diary! ;0)

Do tell, pm if you must, now that we are both of the mellowing variety

MUCH more interesting is the next chap, though.

I was chatting with Tom this wek, & he was giving it his usual "I'm in a meeting in The Palace of Westminster" thing. He must nearly live there now, Security just nod him through these days. What a wonderful thing that he represents his Community so well, relentlessly, & with such purpose, passion, & clarity. He's not a man to get the wrong side of an argument with, that's for sure, & he does not impress easily, too, he has a sort of filter which cuts through blather.

Anyway, he told me he had met, & engaged with, a Politician - well ALL politicians are dodgy buggers, it said so in the Daily Mail, & they'll do well to whoosh Tom - but this chap is quite a remarkable individual, & I found myself full of awe & admiration for what he has done. I'd never previously heard of him, of course. He could go on to be almost anything he wants, I fancy. Even Tom was impressed.

What an amazing life Rory has led already, & he's still only a bit of a kid.

The internet is such a great facility for researching people like him, & I spend hours surfing Wiki.

Rory Stewart, MP.

His own site is here....

I would really much rather have met Rory then David, it's fair to say, but this Celeb thing is extraordinary these days.

No worries, it's on the "to Diary" list. I was there for a SB&G Staff Poker Tourney this week, one of those onerous burdens where I had to accept the invite. I love my colleagues - well, not love, but you get my drift - but it was effectively the start of the Xmas Party Season. Ugh ugh ugh. I eventually escaped around midnight, but rather than stay over - I had a room booked in town - I drove all the way back to London, content in my own company, & the peace & quiet of an empty M1, M40, & M25.

Jeez, what en aye-opener Gala Leeds is, as to poker. More of which soon. I guess it was really rather optimistic & silly of me to ask for some cash chips to play poker, to be fair.

Poker in Leeds has always baffled me, the players, the rooms. We have the potential for a vibrant poker community. Alea really failed to mop it all up when they opened their lovely card room!

I collected a new Twitter "follower" this week (or I may have "folowed" her, I'm not sure which).

Anyway, she is, in a manner, quite well known in poker. Here is how she described herself on Twitter.

actress, director, writer, producer, entrepreneur, vegetarian, animal activist, philanthropist...& coming soon... Spiritual Awakening Jewelry!!

Good luck guessing her name fom that description. "Philanthropist"?

I've treated myself to a day off today, so in true OAP style, I'm off to bed for a kip now. God bless Sunday afternoon naps. Hopefully, having broken the ice, I may even attempt to keep on top of my Diary. Terms & Conditions apply.
