The kid is abs off the map, love it, PMSL @ Pina Colada song, ROFLS.

Next time I'm in a spot I'm going to ask myself "What would LilDave do ?"

that is dangerous ray!

Will be fun though, I'm assuming a bottle of Grey Goose is like £20 right, little pricey but....

I thought Mr Keys "auction" was interesting, but I'm still not sure the best way to approach it tactically. I asked one blonde - pro player - for advice, & he did me right, then another blonde "legend" wrote to me, & we sort of worked a few things out together.

But it's clear that James has cleverly led people away from the 'am I getting value' stance, and created a competitive arena, where winning appears more important, than getting a good price.

I paid the "highest" price at this auction, and as you have implied that the buyers were "mugs" (my implication) then i will bore you with my reasoning as to why it was a very good price for me.

Auctions allow a price to be set as a function of supply and demand.

On the supply side JK was lucky in that there are no other pieces for sale so anyone who wants to buy a bit of this event has to buy off him. But he was also very clever and only sold 30% - this limited the supply even further. And limited the time period on a novel proposal to limit the analysis of the correct "price". (although this was a function of the time left in the week more that anything else)

For me i wanted someone to "rail" as I had donated to the update, this increased the price I was prepared to pay. I am not going to play it as I have no chance. Another factor about the price is it also depends on the number of stakes made, if there is an intention to do this over a long time and many stakes then the price matters more, however for one off occasional purchases then the price paid is of less significance.

As to what JK is worth in that field, it is impossible to answer, as the long run equilibrium point will never be reached (as not enough Monte Carlo's will ever take place). However there are some players that would have an ROI of -50% and others at +100%, I think is safe to say JK is in the top end of that range.

Some bidders may not have understood the correct strategy in bidding on this type of auction, but i don't think that everyone fell into that camp.

Given the price paid, I think it was a good deal, it was much less than I was willing to pay and slightly more than JK would have been willing to sell, so win win.

</boredom>
anyway Macroeconomics>microeconomics

@Jakally: I wasn't cleverly trying to do anything, I just wanted to sell my action at the price that highest price that people would pay, I didn't try to devise a mechanism to drive that price up artificially. I think it's interesting that the bids levelled out at 1.5 after I included that in the OP as an example of a high price, I did toy with the idea of putting 2.0 in there when composing it initially, kinda wish I had now as it shows the power of suggestion imo.

FWIW I think 1.5 is still some way short of a price where you would fail to see an ROI over the infinitely long term, certainly if someone were to have bought my action in every live tournament I ever played at 1.5, even on the day before the Aussie Millions they would still have been in profit, so I don't think it's close. However when you buy in nlhe tournaments you know you're going to do your money upwards of 80% of the time and there is a cost of capital associated with variance, hence why I sell action at all, and this will be different for everyone depending on their circumstances and attitude to risk.

You guess well - incredible photos, thank you. I fancy Tonji will enjoy them, too.

Maybe I'm a bit slow, & I can't look at "art" for a second, but I can stare at photos for 10 or 15 minutes, they seem to say so much.

Did you see the squaddie shaving, baretop, in the snow, doubtless with freezing cold water? And we cringe if the water is a tad below temperature......

I'm just 12 hours away from the end of what I have found to be a quite stressful few days, but I can see the light now.

I moved into my new place on Saturday, & despite it being fully fitted, furnished, bedded & fooded, I still found it all a bit heavy, but it's sorted now.

The Sky TV package went in on Saturday. I've never had HD at home before, or a Sky+ Box, & it's quite something. The oddity of HD is that reminds me of when Colour TV first arrived - within minutes, it becomes "normal", but as soon as you revert to the previous, it looks so bland.

Today, the phone line was due to be switched on (there was an existing line, but the number has changed) but as of now, I just tried ringing it, & it still does not work, but no sweat really, except that it means my Broadband won't be working either - the whole bundle is a Sky Package.

The router for the Broadband arrived in a neat little box with an Idiots Guide to Installation, but when I opened the box, I nearly died, it has cables & sockets & all sorts, arrggh, I may need someone to help me with that, but until the 'phone is sorted, it won't work anyway.

Part of my Sky bundle is something called "SkyGo", which is, if I understand it correctly, the ablity to watch Sky TV on an i-Pad, or similar, I guess.

I could but wonder in awe at such a thing, but how would I ever manage the install?

So, at the Office today, someone said "no worries, I'll sort it for you", & they did - it took precisely 30 seconds. Wow, what a piece of kit!

They had to download an Application - I think they are known as "apps" - which was the first one on my i-pad, I was a bit scared of them, but it slotted in  a treat, in seconds, & the i-Pad does not appear to weigh much more than it did before. I'm like a dog with 2 tails with it now, it's incredible.

I made a monsta mistake when I got the i-Pad, I said "give me the biggest one you have please", & they sold me a 64mega whatsit, or whatever, but it was a Wifi one, & now, I belatedly realise that was well dumb, I should have got a 3G version. I'm told they cannot be converted or upgraded, so I think I'll end up buying a 3G version, & sell/give away the existing wifi version. Or I could have two, that'd be prety balla.....

I don't pretend to know much about software stuff (get away....)  but the i-Pad is simply incredible, the user-interface is just like the sweet spot on a 2 iron, there's no feeling like it, I could mess around with it all day & night. You can do so much simply by touching the screen, how much have these things progressed in a few short years?

And what about that magnificent optical illusion you get, when you "roll" the clock on an I-pad, & it appears to twirl round, slow or fast, according to touch. And in factl the whole thing must be an optical illusion. Incredible.

The Monte Carlo utterly fascinated, & I could not stop watching the thing, even though I was due an early start today.

4 handed, we had two - technically speaking - extremely gifted players, one might just be the best there is, & the other has all the modern game ingredients, & is doing very nicely tyvm, making his 2nd straight MC Final.

Lined up against them were two slightly less technically gifted players, it's fair to say.

The structure was incredible - it could possibly be argued too slow, but nobody could blame the structure if a fluke result arose. And it did. Not being disrespectful to Rasta, or Mr Skipper at all, but them's the facts, in modern parlance, 2 were technically very correct, 2 were not quite so much so.

How does this happen in poker so often? It happened at the SPT Final last week in Newcastle, where the Final included a guy or two who were really pretty cute at the game, but a lovely old chap, in his mid 60's (not 86, as outrageously reported by Tighty) playing his a-b-c stuff, with a 5-1 chip defecit heads up against a really gifted player kid who was one of the boyz, cantered to victory.

I've seen it again & again, time & time over.

Over time, the Jake's & Alex's will get the lot, of course they will, but what a great game this poker is when Cody & Alex, good as they are, cannot quite close the deal. And THAT is why poker is so endearing & popular, some might say addictive - on their day, anyone can win, & they - we - often do.

And how did those two kids handle it all, as to demeanour, & "attitude" at the Table? We know that the image of old peeps is to generally polite & respectful (but shite at poker), & the kids are often perceived, caricatured (sp?) if you like, as lairy & disrespectful, but last night, the roles seem to be wholly reversed. Rasta is allowed to be loud, it's OK, he's quite a fun guy imo, & Mr Skipper can, I guess, do his theatrical dwells with abso no intention of playing the hand again & again, but I thought Jake & Alex were just terific role models, & most of us would do well to handle ourselves half as well as they both did.

Great stuff.

Blonde, especially Tighty, have worked very hard to build bridges with DTD, so that we can keep the Live Update gig - it's never been a given, there is always the chance they might go elsewhere, so last night was a bit of a worry, & really rather embarrassing, with the thread turning un-necessarily ugly, rude, & personal to Mr Trumper.

You may not have seen a comment or two that had to be snap-deleted, but plenty else remained, & poor Tighty did not know what way to look, or turn, at times, juggling the delayed stream, the Updates, & deletes.

Of course it's fine to criticise, but there is a way of doing it, & a time & place.

But it's amazing how these things can turn, & the thread has turned right round today, with numerous senior blondes making much more reasoned comments. I can't begin to tell you what a relief that was, I was half expecting a call from Rob Yong or Nick Whiten today, giving us some bad news.

A fine recovery.

Having an negative opinion on something is not a calling card to let everyone know about it, often its wise to keep council on it for the greater good. A life lesson i have had to learn Sad

Meanwhile, the sponsor situation is edging forward, the net has been cast, & we have a number of interested parties in the loop, (not all of them are "Rooms") some of whom are interested in more than just sponsoring blonde, so that's something.

Fingers crossed we can cut some sort of deal, but a big thank you to a number of contacts who have been incredibly helpful, & supportive, in helping us resolve the situation.

I think we all have, to be fair. That's the key though - being able to learn from it.

Good news - my 'phone line has now been connected.

Bad news - that means I face the challenge of trying to plumb that router thing in. Even money a nervous breakdown by midnight.

Does anyone still use a traditional, home, "landline" these days, except as a platform for broadband?

I can actually get wifi in the new place via something called BTFON, & it's absolutely fine. And £5 per day. What a money-spinner that must be for BT!

Weirdly enough, I only use my landline for 0845/0870/0800 style numbers. Local and long-distance standard calls I use my mobile, as it's cheaper because of my contract.
