Haven't looked at it yet, but Jack's had a read and thought it was good.  Start a new thread where people can help you dissect it.

Office looks nice...  Wink

Lol, posh, eh?

I've moved TWICE since, though I cannot say the ambience has improved much.

Next month, however, we are due to move into the spanking new £90 million "Harlequin" building, though whether I'll survive that long remains to be seen. A lifetime of feeling insecure means I always think today may be my last day. One day, it will, & I'll be ready.

Mind games.

Moving office again?  You'll miss Christmas Music Lady.

Watching The Open, & I'm not sure what is most delicious, the wonderful scene, theatre, drama, golf, or the amazingly wry commentary of Peter Alliss. He is, quite astonishingly, 81 years old, & seemingly still completely on top of his game.

apropos something & nothing, he was just musing on one of the golfers who was due to become a father for the 5th time.

He added "I was officially the heaviest baby in Europe for some 90 years, I was born weighing 14lbs 10 ounces".

Is there any proof of that recorded anywhere?

He seemed serious enough.

Ok, I'll let you level me...

How could he have the record for 90 years if he's only 81 ?

Edit : After re-reading this for the tenth time I guess this is another misread from me in this thread

May as well add something productive to the thread http://armchairgolfblog.blogspot.co.uk/2007/08/peter-alliss-was-big-big-baby.html

In the comments at the bottom it says his Mother was only 5"1, ouch!

Harder & harder to believe.

But Peter would not lie, would he? He's like a God to Camel, Karabiner & I, we adore him.

Peter in Vegas

Fine photo Mr Tal.

I stood in what appears to be the exact same spot & this was the result. No plans to give up the current day job.

Is the roof on Fremont Street a modern inclusion? Seems to have been missing when Rick Moranis was chasing his enlarged child around Las Vegas.

Nice find, thanks Ryan.

For those who never clicked the link, it is abourt Red Kite chicks, who don't seem to be able to handle wet weather very well, as they have such voluminous feathers.

This caught my eye though.....

Once they've fallen out of trees, they just lie on the ground, soaking wet, and playing dead

I have heard this a lot with many species of bird, I've seen it, too, with sparrows that my cat has tried to attack.

Is there any logical explanation, is it a deliberate ploy, or just trauma?

I believe it was added in about 1996.

wrote this on Tom's diary in June. I wondered the same...

I work in a room that looks out over my back garden

Regular bird visitors these days because of the bird bath and feeders I have put up

plus an assortment of neighbourhood cats

This morning one of the larger ones struck a female blackbird pecking the grass, with its paw, and the blackbird lay on the ground, motionless

The cat looked at me through the French windows. I looked at the cat

The bird, I thought, was a goner. Inert.

I wondered what the cat was waiting for. I considered going outside

Five minutes pass. The bird has not moved. The roof of my utility room overlooking the scene is aural bedlam, birds screeching

The cat makes a tentative step towards the bird, opens its mouth and bugger me if the bird doesn't jerk its neck in the air, look round, and fly off vertically in a shower of feathers.

Never seen a blackbird play dead before.
