Thought you might like this

This is a ship-shipping ship, shipping shipping ships

What an extraordinary thing. Not photo-shopped, is it?

Every time I view it, it begs more questions. How, where, why?

I'm guessing a Korean shipyard, but where to, no idea.

No idea how the ships would have been loaded, they look to heavy for conventional cranes.

There ae 14 ships there, that's a big order by any standards. Who would want 14 near identical small cargo ships these days? A Baltic or Russian state, perhaps?

All a complete mystery. Need more info please.

If it's real are they scrap? Surely you wouldn't want to risk damaging new vessels by transporting them like that?

Superb, Trains Planes & Busmobiles.

I am familiar with that location, too, it is right opposite my regular spot by the BP Garage on the A30 Great South West Road.

In fact, my fantastic "aeroplane coming into land" photos are taken there, or most of them.

Rols Royce plc (Engineering, Civil & Military Aerospace engine manufacturers, Marine Propulsion, Nucleur Reactors, but nothing to do with RR cars) are as fine a company as you can imagine.

Over 100 years old, has "Centres of Excellence", Academies, Training Centres, a R & D budget of billions, one of the biggest forward order books of any UK (or even worldwide) Company, had a net income north of £1 billion last year, & is a world leader in many respects. It employs 40,000 staff, plus at least as many again via sub-contractors, & has more factories than you can ever imagine.

It has a market Cap of around £22 billion.

Yesterday, a company floated which has never made a penny (or cent) of profit, has no real idea how it will, has a forward P/E off the scale, employs barely a handful of staff, & makes absolutely nothing material.

It was valued at $25 billlion.

How Institutions can make these judgement calls is really quite something.

Warren Buffett must be smiling wryly this morning.

Lovrely Post, Holdy, lovely.

I had quite forgotten about erasers. In those days we called them "rubbers" of course, then the hackneyed so-called comedians who love whoopee cushions & the like used the double entendre thing, so they became erasers.

I never realised folks still enjoyed stationery shops, though it used to be the thing to do on a Saturday, before the internet arrived.

My shop fad is bookshops, I sometimes go to Charing Cross Road & spend the entire day just perusing & buying books. In 2nd hand bookshops, there is ann evocative musty smell, which is lovely.

How are you, anyway, & your Little Big Man? How old is he now? Into girls yet? You must be as proud as punch of him.

Good to see you Next Door from time to time, too. Weird how we often seem to be on the same table!

I'm doing a sort of Mini-Bankroll challenge thing there, not the usual dick-waving thing, just "Brand Message" sort of thing. I Update progress daily. Only small money, but immensely satisfying. Taken me a month to make £100 profit, lol, but it relaxes me tremendously, I can shut the world off when playing small-ball poker.

You doing Vegas any time soon?

Ah yes Bookshops as well ... that musty smell (only ever found in old books shops and Grandma's houses  Grin   I'm re-thinking our coffee meet-up destination now.

Taz is 12 now, going on 40. His latest hobby is the desire to build his own gaming PC so he is currently trawling the net every night looking for the best but cheapest parts to start saving for.  He has also joined debating club at school ... I'm screwed basically, everything at home will now be debatable ... I will need a hotline to Mr Andrew T for back-up here.   Girls do not figure for him yet ... although I don't think it will be long because his hair is becoming a more and more important aspect of his morning routine ;-)

I'm enjoying playing next door again, it's been a long while since I was over there and yes I did chuckle the last three times I jumped into the HiLo DYM SNGs to see you sitting there Cheesy  Came fourth in the Omaha UKOPS and Ryan logged on to rail for a bit .... unfortunately I became too attached to my hand at a crucial stage when my whole gut was screaming at me to fold ... was fun though.

Have seems some "balla" things these last few weeks. I have just seen one that would not fall into that category.

Playing the £50 at Grosvenor Birmingham.

Chap to my left catches the valet's eye.

"Can I have an orange squash please, Bab?"  (It's Birmingham. We do that)
"Sure. It's eighty pence "
"It's what?!"
"Eighty pence"
"Eighteen?"

I'll be honest. It's getting awkward now.

"No, eighty. Eight-zero"
"Oh...No, you're alright, luv"

The waitress - to her eternal credit - tries to stifle the triggered response but just can't stop herself

"Really??!"

She walked away with a confused look on her face. I was sure to give her a bit extra as a tip at the next opportunity.

The bolded bit is such a wonderfully British thing to do.  It really is little things like that that make me miss home more than almost anything now.

There is a particularly quaint additional factor in the context of tipping because what is considered here to be generous would be deemed grossly offensive where you are, red Cheesy

...

I was there during the week and it reminded me to suggest that if you ever get the opportunity you should probably have a browse in the Waterstones in Gower Street opposite University College London.

It's 5 floors high and basically the whole block wide. The books share a bit of space with it's own branch of a music shop, a stationary shop - and obviously - a Costa.

The building itself used to be a key branch of the much older Dillon's bookshops (and was a bookshop before the founder of Dillon's acquired it in the 1930's) - basically it's not just big, it's a very lovely building.

The key selling point of this branch though is that, possibly uniquely for Waterstones, it has a substantial second hand department (substantial enough that it could probably operate as a second hand bookshop by itself).

It might not have quite the range of Foyles - but it's close, and I personally think it's a better experience than there (probably just because of the building itself though)

EDIT:
Found a picture - and that it was built in 1907/8
