Penly Pings it!
Huge congrats to "Riverdave" Penly, who won the £300 Omaha at the Norweigan Championships today on his
DT
D
debut. He had a lot of chips early, drifted off the pace, but got the job done.
Mick McCool was 4th, Greek Jack 11th, & Rolf Woods 10th. Here's the full result, thanks to the
DT
D
Results service. I am not aware if any (
DT
D
-style......) deal was done.
David Penly £13,125
2 Rolf Galåsen £7,500
3 Steffan Kristoffersen £4,875
4 Michael Mccool £3,188
5 Fredrik Hovden £2,550
6 Kenneth Strandli £1,688
7 Eirik Svanes £1,313
8 Vidar Sabbasen £938
9 Daniel Hersvik £750
10 Rolf Woods £525
11 Kyriacos Dionysiou £525
12 Ylva Thorsrud
Thanks Tikay i have a policy of doing no deals whatsoever unless they are very much in my favour so it was played out, and business was not even suggested by another player until HU. Testament to both a well structured tournament and good/fair payout structure.
Funny moment when i was presented and photographed with the trophy only to have it taken away 30 seconds later as it was apparently for the highest placed Norweigan!

If the effect of the increased traffic on Blonde is to reflect the attitude of society more accurately then this is predominately a good thing imo. Poker is a game played by people, all sorts of people, and it is interesting to see how they think and how they react to stuff. The reality of people and how they behave shouldn't be a subject that needs to be disguised or stamped out. To be good at poker you need to know people, so I in particular don't want to be shielded from them.
Yes, some people are rude, but Blonde is not responsible for their existence. This is the world we live in. The thing is that the degree of rudeness is entirely dependant upon the degree of offence caused. So as much as the problem in society today is that people are treating each other with less respect it is also true that people are overly sensitive. We want to sue each other for the "pain & suffering" of name-calling when we really don't know what real pain & suffering is.
One attribute I've acquired by playing poker is indifference to people's bad habits. The hard shell you develop is a result of the exposure to these bad habits not an exclusion from them, so I think it's important for Blonde to reflect this reality. Developing a thick skin is beneficial in life as well as poker and I think it's entirely possible to witness rudess and still smile about it.
Also a great benefit of rudeness is that when you meet someone with old-fashioned etiquette it makes such an impression these days.

Something for TK....soz if I open a whole can of worms here.
I read this in the London edition of Metro on the train this morning....
"Centenary celebrations at South Ruslip"
One of the oldest functioning underground stations opened 100 years ago today.
South Ruslip originally opened under the name of Northolt Junction on 1st May 1908 as part of the Great Western Railway. The name was changed to South Ruslip and Northolt Junction in September 1932, before becoming South Ruslip 10years later.
The station was constructed and linked to the Central Line on 30th June 1947, as part of the lines extension westwards. This made it the longest of all the Underground Lines at 74km (46 miles) long.
The station currently serves around 3,000 people each day and is a stop on the longest tube journey possible on the underground – from West Ruslip to Epping which is 54km (34.1 miles) from start to finish.

Thought-provoking, & an interesting take.
Reflect society as a whole? I'm afraid I don't really want that. If society these dasys chooses to go from pop to bang without any in-between, & we can't debate in a reasoned manner, without shouty-wouty, well that is not the Forum I wanted, or set out to create.
I'm probably living in cloud-cuckoo-land though.
I know what I wanted when we started this place, & right now, a few adjustments are needed. But that's just my opinion.
I suppose it's that grumpy old man thing. My intolerance to bad manners, lack of decorum, & social skills is less than it should be, I readily admit. It's like smoking though - I know it's wrong, but I don't want to give up. And I'd prefer that, whilst not totally sanitising the place, blonde was at least a home for reasoned debate. My hearing is fine - I don't need follks to shout at each other. Someone has a problem? No problem, just say it clearly, sensibly, & reasonably. That's all it takes.
It's not what we say - it's how we say it.
Good Post Mr Mantis.

Went to Luton for their relaxing £50 + £50 tonight. Lots of early Cash action, the DC game was in full-flow, Ambro, Lloydy, Brian, Anthony, Mrs Bracket, but no Mr Hinge. They were squabbling like billy-o, too, all that "I was before you on the list" - "no you were not", so I decided against it, & I'll play the Comp. (Two full DC Tables were going by 9pm).
This Comp should be a shoe-in to Top Five, & I sat out early, while the speedsters did their thing.
I'd had a very bad day at the (blonde) Office, shall we say, & I was happy just to sit there & unwind, ditto Tighty.
We began with 9 players, & an alternate was drafted into Seat 10 after about 20 minutes. And then it started. He felt he did not have enough room - less than his "entitlement".
"I am entitled to have Seats 5 & 6 splitting the Dealer". (They were about 4 inches off "centre"). Prior to his arival, we had, of course, spread the 9 seats equitably. (10 man Tables are such a pain, it's fair to say).
So eveyone did that rather strange thing where they pretend to shuffle their chair along, pick it up, & put it down half-an-inch further along.
Seat 10 still not happy.
"No, your shoulder is not in line, you have to move at least 2 inches further".
Luckily, this squabble only lasted 15 minutes, by which time, the Table Mood was pleasantly acrid & sour, & everyone was making snide remarks at everyone else. Sanjay asked me why I was so quiet, but I just could not be arsed with all that stupidity tonight. I play poker for fun, not to squabble like a kid.
I determined I'd sit nice & quietly, & Final.
We saw, in Level One, 25-50, first to act make it 600 (!), then complain why he got no action, showing his Aces. Several more such examples followed. I was not sure what I'd do if I found a hand, as Raises were getting called in 5 & 6 spots.
I found J-J, with a Raise to 275 in front of me from Marino. That first Raise is the hardest to judge, whereas subsequent Raises are action dependent, & easier to read. So I made it 600, & the Acting Dwell told the story, followed by "with another 1,000". Easy, insta-fold, I show & he flashes his Aces.
I sat quietly for another 20 minutes then made my first move, in late position, I make it 400, with no hand, Q-3. (50-100). I don't mind action here, so happy to build the pot with sfa. The Sicilian calls, as does the BB, reasonably.
Flop was A-4-3, Rainbow. Hard to bet out with The Sicilian behind me on that flop, so we both check, plus the straggler that came along with us.
The turn was a blank, checked to me, I bet 1,000, & The Sicilian makes it "with" 3,000. Oops. Pass. He shows 2-2. My bloody Q-3 was ahead! Great play by him, but it's that bluffing thing again. I really must quit it.
Post-break, the Table Mood was still tetchy - what is it with everyone in April? - but I started to motor nicely now, & easily, & risk-adverse-edly, I turned up the Dial, & was soon in cruise mode with 10k.
I lost 2k in another hand where Oppo had the Aces, but that was the cheapest I could have got off.
Then I found two black Aces, & made it 700. I get two callers, & I bet out on the 2 club "safe" flop, & get action. Flushing? The Turn was another Club, but I gotta bet again here I think. Or thought.....
Anyway, he made it "with 4k", & I could not convince myself he had the flush - yet - & seeing as I had the Ace of Clubs in my hand, I decided I may as well bet the shop. Or call the shop, as it played.
He had it, the River blanked out, & I'd made the cardinal error of failing to put down Aces when the Board comes bad. I was pretty cross with myself - what a wasted oppoprtunity, the Comp was very playable.
I think my head was in the wrong place tonight. Like, up my arse.
shame i missed the action ill be back and in the game 2 weeks from now so bring your dancing shoes.
Seems a good night was had by all

Just about crawled out of bed at 11am this morning, shattered. Why oh why do I want to write all night when I have to get up in the morning?
Zipped down the M1, M25, & was at Feltham for just after noon. Done an hour's e-Mails, then into the Big Meeting.
The amount of new Shows Sky Poker have in the pipeline is beyond belief - 4 new Shows start to air in the next month alone. And now we are working on the next financial year - June '08 to May '09. We plan to do a lot more Offline stuff in the nrext financial-year, get out & about more, a sort of Sky Poker Roadshow.
I had to leave the Meet at 3pm, but I've got about ten e-Mails & reports to write off the back of it. It's hugely satisfying being part of all this.

From the Big Meet, it was straight into the Studio for "Table-Talk", a Pilot derivative of The Club.
In the Chair was Matt Broughton,. & the Guests were Tracey Dell, Liv Boeree, & Eddie Hearn.
The debate was about "Women Only" Poker Tourneys, &, naturallly, got a bit lively.
We all know Tracey can articulate well, & Liv came across well too.
But Eddie Heard was astounding. He's incredibly perceptive, & debates with great skill, wit, & has the nous to make points that puncture the toughest of arguments. He's a strikingly handsome man, more at home in softs than Suits, & very comfortable in his body & mind. I'm amazed that a millionaire's son could turn out so well. He'll make more money than his Dad, time he's done.
From that, which ended at 5pm, it was straight into a Promo, which only took 5 minutes.
Richasrd Orford did the identical Promo straight after me (we all have to do one) & it was 10 times better. So I asked if I could re-do mine, taking advantage of watching Richard do it properly, & they agreed, phew.
I introduced Richard Orford to Dingdell afterwards, & they got on like a house on fire, gabbling away like old women for half an hour or more. I'm really pleased that Richard Orfodd is coming to bB6, I think he'll be incredibly well-received, & he has superb people skills.
Mind you, he looks pretty gormless & smarmy in this pic. Does the camera never lie?

Tikay, your Luton reports really are getting bad all the key juicy pieces of info that you just to serve to us are being forgotten about.
we need to know
Full english or chips cheese and beans?
Have you dropped your food on the floor recently
What technique are you using to get in and out of the toilet
How are the hand dryers
How is the smokers cage.
Have you fallen asleep in the comfy chairs while waiting the comps to start.
Have you been told you have no idea how much trouble you were in

Last duty of today for me is tonight's Sky Poker "Five-O, the Sky Sports Simulcast.
We go into the Studio shortly, to do final rehearsal, & I'm looking forward to iit, the Simulcast gives me a real buzz. Any mistake wil be career-ending. And that's the buzz, I think.
Richard Orford is the Presenter, so it'll be just fine I think.
Not sure, but I think the Comp is sold out already. We go "Live" at 10pm. Fancy getting revved up & excited about "work" at my age!
