Next door's loss was our gain and many of us enjoyed your waffles all the more for not having read them for a while.
£250 for the airport parking - blimey.
My friend John used to collect me from home, take me to Heathrow, collect me(and Tom en route once)when I came back and drop me/us off at my abode all for £200.
That was 13/14/15 years ago now but still. Doesn't time fly.
Well done on the cash and have a pleasant journey home.
Thanks Ralph.
I seem to remember in around 2004/5 (?) you invited me to brekkie in Vegas with you & Tom, we had a full brekkie & never-ending coffee refills for something ridiculous, might have been $5 each.Great brekkie it was, too. Can't recall where it was, but I'm gonna guess Gold Coast.
Another year, you & Tom were staying Downtown & getting the Deuce every day up to the Strip (might have been other way round, but no matter) & you both became acquainted with a bit of a character who was a regular on the Deuce. If I had the time & ability I'm sure I could find it on Tom's Diary somewhere.
Incidentally, the Deuce costs a little more these days.
"Las Vegas Deuce bus prices start at $6 for a 2-hour pass, however, there is a 24-hour pass available for $8, and a 3-day pass that can be all yours for $20"
PS - good luck tomorrow at Wollaton.

Sounds like you and Gill had a great time
Gonna miss those superb updates
Hi Trev,
We had THE most wonderful time. As I think you may know, Gill was unwell last year so was unable to come to Vegas, so she was really revved up for this year & I wanted to try & ensure it all went well this year. She has had a wonderful time, & been to every shopping centre in Vegas I think.
For complicated reasons (my work duties really, such as they are) we travelled separately, we both had different flights, & different arrival & departure dates. We always do it that way.
She flew home yesterday (Saturday) on the Midnight Jet Blue flight to New York where she transferred to the Aer Lingus flight to Manchester, so I dropped her off at the airport last night then came back to the Palazzo for one more night, as I leave today. I slept like a log.
At least, that was the plan, but tl;dr, the Jet Blue flight was delayed/further delayed /further further delayed/ cancelled, so she was stuck at Vegas Airport all night, first I knew was a 'phone call from her at 5am this morning. So I jumped out of bed, picked up a Starby for her & dashed to the Airport to collect her, she's been re-booked on tonight's 21.30 BA flight to Heathrow & then the shuttle to Manchester. It was lucky I answered the 'phone, I'm a bit weird with incoming 'phone calls - I always blank them. And I never - never - chat to Gill (or anyone else) on the 'phone these days if I can help it. After a life seemingly spent on the telephone, I've flip-flopped.
So we got back to Palazzo, & paid $125 for a 6pm late checkout, which Jet Blue will compensate Gill for.
My flight is 5.30pm today, so I'll head to the Airport at around 1pm or so, & Gill will then get to the Airport at around 6pm.
Well that was a fascinating read.....

Hi Tikay
Not been posting much, but have enjoyed reading your Vegas 'blog'.
I personally don't get to go to Vegas anymore (too expensive), but enjoy reading the updates.
Thanks, I was pleased to see you were on the thread some days, not heard from you in ages.
Can completely understand swerving Vegas these days on cost grounds, it's got ridiculous.
We needed a baggage trolley at Vegas Airport this morning - it cost $6. Not a typo, SIX DOLLARS. We never wanted to buy the damn thing, just rent it for 10 minutes. Plus $6 to park the car in Short Stay for 10 minutes. Then $125 to extend checkout to 6pm.
And so it goes on.

Enjoyed the mini trip report, hopefully you will go longer in 2024, Im hoping to make my first trip since Covid, travel insurance is probably going to be my biggest bugbear.
Hi Simon,
I can't begin to imagine how much travel/health insurance is going to cost you.
Mine was just shy of $600, & that was after shopping around, they were all similar prices. I paid that through gritted teeth.
But you'll be pleased to know that The Orleans is in great shape, plenty of action 24/7. It really is a vastly underrated resort. I was sat there yesterday playing cash, watching three TV screens which were showing Baseball, NFL & Horse Racing. Thought I'd died & woke up in Heaven. Just a few steps away there is a Subway, a Foodruckers, a Baskin Robbins, a Burger Bar & God knows what else.

So pleased that you both had a great time Tony, I concur with others that your waffling has been terrific.
Safe travels home to you both.
xXx
p.s I've found another book for you, I'll pm you later. No rush x
Hi Shaz,
I'll come back to this later this morning as I went on a bit of a book buying splurge at Barnes & Noble yesterday & I need to do a bit of prep for that post.
First though, some poker news...

I had one last cash session yesterday (Limit O8) at Orleans.
You may recall that my Big O MTT ended rather badly, after making the FT 3rd in chips I never won another hand & exited with a whimper in 6th place for a min-cash, & feeling a tinsy-winsy bit sorry for myself.
Well yesterday's cash session was the complete opposite.
For starters, I had Quads FOUR times in the 3 hour session. On one of those occasions, holding A-6-J-J I ended up with Quad Jacks AND Quad sixes. Hard to believe, I know, the odds must be off the scale.
And then this happened...

It was weird, it's hard to get paid with hands like that, but every time I bet on the River the fella raised me, & we reached the cap. (It was a half-kill pot too).
I assumed he had quad Queens, but in fact he had Queens full of Kings.
So I pulled in a nice pot, but then I got a lovely surprise - there was a "High Hand Bonus" in operation, & I got $400 for that.
It'd be nice to think there was even an ounce of skill involved in all those Quads plus the Royal, but as you know, it's 100% luck.
For sure, I've never had a session remotely like it in my life, & I certainly won't see one like it again.
On Friday, we dined at Grand Lux, by way of celebrating the end of a fantastic trip. It's a bit above our normal price range but I wanted to end the trip in style as it had gone so well. Then, after binking that Royal, we decided to dine at Grand Lux for the 2nd straight night. Proper posh, us. Grand Lux is the Vegas nuts, highly recommended.

Back to Shaz, & books.
I'm a fool when it comes to book shops, I can't help myself, I could buy 50 or 60 books at a time if I'm not careful.
Barnes & Noble on West Charleston Bvd is a beaut of a bookshop, large, airy, well set out, proper old-fashioned bookshop, it's even got a Starby where you can sit & peruse books at leisure.
Very pleased to find a copy of "Life In The Fast Lane", a sort of warts & all story about The Eagles. Crucially, it includes a lot about Irving Azoff who was The Eagles Manager for 40 years. Very sharp cookie indeed, as was David Geffen, who famously battled with Irving over The Eagles contracts. That ended with a distinct lack of pleasantries...
“I’d sooner die than let you f*** me,” Geffen told Irving Azoff, Henley’s manager.
Irving then went on to become CEO of TicketMaster. He must be worth billions. Comes across really well in interviews. Not one you'd want on the opposite side of the negotiating table, he's like Des Duffy on steroids. (Take that as a compliment, Des).
Even Don Henley said of Irving...
“Right. As I’ve said before, he may be Satan – but he’s our Satan.”

Other purchases from Barnes & Noble this trip included these. The suitcase is going to weigh a bit.

We also were thinking this year would be our last year
But l3 Saturdays ago we looked on virgin and using 107 k points and a £20 k spend on the virgin credit card upgrade
We got two PE seats for $540 each
Such a good price we couldn’t resist
Our answer to massively rinsing strip costs is simply southpoint or downtown
Southpoint recently voted best locals casino
