Charities can be  formed in sorts of ways as we've found to our cost on this forum. I am healthity cynical about someone who donates to his own charity until I knwo the runnign costs, deductionc for salaries etc.

Rob Yong runs his for free, does Barry Greenstein do the same or does he use a clever accountant and deduct all his poker buy ins/travel etc from the charity before turning a profit?

looks like a pretty good record:
http://www.barrygreenstein.com/charities.htm (caution REALLY bad music)

Doesn't look like a tax write-off. However, has donated $0 to the UKFreeFlushy fund, calls himself a POKER PLAYER?? ?? Roll Eyes

Does a lot to diminish the image of poker players as out to grab cash at other people's expense. Ditto Antonas Guoga.

All winnings are donated to charity BUT when you run the charity and are a principal within the charity decidign where the money goes you also decide how much people within the charity get paid to do their job and what expenses are paid etc.  For example Rob Yongs charity doesn't pay any costs, Rob provides all his time and expenses out of his own pocket from his other businesses. All charity money goes to charity.

Does Barry Greenstein have another avenue for income - I don't know? If not - how does he pay to live? The money must come from somewhere.........See what I'm saying???

Remember the problems with P4C where it was discovered that a lot of the donations were not getting to where they should have and were being used to pay for directors salaries etc?

I'm not saying that Barry Greenstein is doing the same - but I am always cynical until i have the full facts - and untill i hear that he is a lottery winner and lives off the interest from his lottery millions I will always be a cynic.

He only gives tournament winnings to charity - cash game winnings are his.  Also, he made millions from the IT company Symantec when he retired in the early 90s (was he one of the ones who set it up?).

unfortunately what you seem to fear about charities I think is often correct, however.
(insert tear-filled pic of starving African child here)
will you not give? do you not care?
yeah, but I know where a lot of it goes
(insert non-tear filled pic of non-starving charity exec lounging by pool paid for by your 'generous donation')

If I was the magistrate I would crucify these guys. Effectively stealing from the most needy. Like taking the last bit of bread out of a starving african kid's hands to help pay for your new porsche alloys. Hang'em.
