Hi all,

Any ideas or suggestions where this is, & what the demonstration may have been about. Its part of an archive bought from a Russian Photo-Journalist, working in the 50s & 60s, so I am assuming this is an Eastern Bloc country.

Many thanks,

Tonji

BTW they are not Welsh this time  Smiley

Is it a march demanding for Women-only poker events?

Seriously though, those flags must be the key here.  Shame it isn't in colour...Grin

The cross on the swiss flag doesn't reach the edge.

Can't find any current Eastern Bloc flags that look like that.  Georgia is the only one (of the current flags) that has a cross, but it has 4 smaller crosses in each square and also is a red cross on a white background - which doesn't match the photo.

It could be regional flag though - eg Hungary is divided into many Cantons (like Switzerland), but I've not managed to find a site with the flags.

Tonji - how'd you get on with the spearmen pic?

Hi Rod,

I never really got a definitive answer on that from the Pitts River museum, there best bet was Sarawak. I've since sold it to a Belgian anthropologist.

A lesser known flag from Germany 1200-1350 is The Holy Roman Flag don't know why it would be used then though, unless it was a religion thing
