Barnsley to be relegated at 6/4, of the teams near the bottom last year I cant see Leicester, QPR, Norwich and Coventry having such bad seasons this year, Hull could struggle again but looking at Barnsley's squad it looks very poor to me and tho the promoted teams from the div below might struggle too I cant see Barnsley finishing above the bottom 4 or 5 at best.

Barnsley agreed, ask Sheriff Fatman for the inside goss a big Barnsley fan....I think Leicester at 16/1 are a good E/W bet and far better value than a weakened WBA, and the likes of Charlton at the top of the betting

I quite like the fact that we're being disregarded by the bookies this season.  Everywhere I read we're dead certs for 24th place when I actually think we're better placed than we were at the start of last season.

Our squad has been overhauled in the summer.  We've brought 8 players in so far and got rid of a few who weren't playing regularly last season, including Nardiello who was frustratingly inconsistent.  Several of the new signings are foreign imports so are 'unknown quantities' in the eyes of the bookies but pre-season displays suggest they'll do OK.  Rob Kozluk and Andy Johnson will add a bit of much-needed experience and Rohan Ricketts on a free transfer looks to be a good bit of business too.  Best of all, we've got Nyatanga back from Derby, which is a fabulous signing.  He makes a big difference to our central defence and has a great future ahead of him so having him on our books again is a real coup.

Overall, we look to be stronger than we were last season and I think there is enough mediocrity in this division for us to avoid relegation more comfortably than we did last season.  I feel much more optimistic about our chances this year than I did 12 months ago.

6/4 on barnsley looks good value to me, they had easily the worst defence in the division last year and were extremely poor when we (Norwich) played against them home and away last year.
We were shocking at Oakwell and we played most of the Carrow Road game with 10 men so Norwich fans certainly saw us at our worst last season.  We've made big changes to the defence in the summer so hopefully there'll be less of the shocking ineptitude this time around.

Sheffield Utd to win the championship @ about 9/1, 10/1.

Got 2 goalscorers in Sharp and Beattie. With back up from Hulse, Webber and Stead. Look fairly solid at the back. Havent lost too many players from last season, only Jagielka springs to mind. Also I thought thry were unlucky to go down last season.
My only concern would be the change in management but Robson could get them out of this division.

I thought WBA might be close but losing Koumas and Camara might be too much for them, also wouldnt be surprised if Curtis Davis moves on before the window closes.

It looks like southampton are going to sell their main striker to Derby so they will be weakened, aswell as losing Bale. Wolves I dont think will do much better than last season and I think the playoffs are about as good as they will get. I cant see Watford bouncing straight back either.

I think Charlton could be the Blades biggest danger but Im not sure how they will react to losing Bent and think they may have to settle for 2nd.

I hope you are right mate, you fancy the £50 rebuy in Leeds next week?

I wouldn't think losing Marcus will affect team morale too much for the coming season Wink

Any footy bettors got any thoughts on this treble?

Dundee Utd to finish above Gretna at 4/7, the spreads have these two teams 16 points apart and with Gretna playing their home games about 70 miles away in Motherwell I think this looks a strange match to put out.

cheers

Gretna will struggle but by backing Dundee U you are siding with Craig Levein, never that tempting!!

I'd rather the double than the treble here...leaving out Gretna, who at least have a money bags chairman to pull some rabbits out of hats if need be

Backing Dundee utd to finish above Gretna is buying money, I agree with Phil, I've no idea why these two are in the same bracket either!

Gretna had a formula to rise up through the divisions & that was to buy players who were proven to be better than the division they were in that season. They could do this because they could afford to.

Now they are in the top division thay can't afford to buy the better SPL players & are left with the guys who have served them over the last couple of seasons. The money they have is needed to build a new stadium so they can't invest in players. As was pointed out they play home games 70 miles from Gretna, almost every game is an away game.
I think they actually came up one year to early.

They also have the circus concerning their manager who is on a 5 year rolling contract, is paid every week/month but who is isn't actually the manager & isn't allowed near their dressing room  >:?

In summary United pwns Gretna  Wink
