BT Broadband Issues
«

I use their wireless services via their router - BT Voyager 2091. Every day we lose connection to the Internet, sometimes for 30 seconds, other times longer. I know the problem is not with my computer since my wife loses connection at the same time. If it appears to be a "long" disconnection, powering off the router and turning it back on seems to "fix" the problem. This leads me to believe it is a problem with my router. Needless to say this invariably happens during a big hand!
I would appreciate feedback from any other BT customers if they experience the same thing or if they enjoy uninterrupted service.
Thanks.

I have BT and it has happened to me once, in about 4 months since I had it, and compared to Tiscali ill take that. I know from experience being in mates house with BT, when 2 of us are using serivce it can cut out, but in gerneral I would say BT have been excellent.
Try loggin a fault online, they will say they have fixed it after a while, and just keep loggin it until they come out. BT bloke was in my work a couple of weeks ago, and said the 50% of homes just have a little lose connection somewhere in the line, and it causes a drop and they just need connecting properly and it would never happen again.

I went through a period of this and tried to complain, to no avail. It settled down after a couple of weeks and now as before I very rarely get disconnected.

I live in Nottingham and have had virtually faultless service from BT.
However I know that Tikay who lives 25 miles away in Derby has had a lot of problems.

This happens to me a lot recently, so much so that I began to wonder about my router.
Calling the helpdesk, the first response is always...switch off power for 5 seconds, switch it back on..and hey presto this usually works
The alterantive the one time there was an exchange problem took about 40 minutes at x p per minute to get anywhere near the problem!

Although his internet connection is perfectly OK.

marcro, are both computers which are losing connection both connected using wireless?
Might be worth trying using a network cable if that is possible to help narrow down any possible sources for the cause of the problem.
Another thing to check I guess would be when you lose connection does your router have a light which illuminates when it is connected to the internet?
I have had problems with my netgear router in the past where a computer would disconnect even though the router was still connected to the net according to the light on it.
I have always used network cables to connect my computers but funnily enough in the last week I have started to use wireless to connect a couple of new laptops and since using this I have had no problems, may just be a conincidence!
From my experience routers seem to be tempremental at times and occasionally loose connection to the net or to computers for no reasons as far as I can tell and usually a quick power off and on again of the router normally fixes the problem. On occaision that this has not worked I have used the web browser to change a setting on the router forcing it to reconnect again or reboot the router via a web browser.

Do you know what speed your broadband is?, as recently BT have been upgrading to 8Mb lines, and a lot of 'older' routers cant handle that speed, I had to buy and ADSL2 router , as mine kept losing connection after they upgraded.

Is it just me, or do other people see unintended meanings in short sentences?
The title of this thread for instance, I also read it as "Broad bandy shoes"
