But most kids deserve a slap now & then, & if I had kids, I'd slap them if need be. I would not allow the law to prevent me.

Someone I know, (who btw is a loving husband and a kind doting father) was visiting Disney Land Paris with his family when his little boy decided to throw a "I want it" tantrum.
My friend smacked the boy, once, lightly on the bottom, and was arrested at gunpoint and marched away in handcuffs while his family, including his now hysterical son, looked on.

And THATS why we have some bad kids. I accept, of course, that in this case, blaming the parent is a bit rich.

The law preventing kids fom being physically punished is well-intended, & a good thing, but it's been dreadfully badly framed, & it's a case of the baby & the bathwater.

It would be interesting to know if any research has been done into whether kids who get smacked turn out to be better behaved than their counterparts who aren't smacked.  I'd be very surprised if that were the case, to be honest.

I agree with you. The same is true for the majority our laws. That's why, in the eyes of the law, if I don't travel with my home and my family in persuit of my living, I am no longer a Gypsy.

The very definition that was designed to assist us now hinders us.

I too would be surprised if they turned out better, but I bet they were better behaved during the growing-up process.

yet i still find the majority of youth based culture nothing really different than what i enacted upon and was acted upon after i became slightly intolerant of behaviour i have been guilty of.

i think it maybe blinkered to only criticise or seek escapism from what is i believe to be an over reaction in a lot of instances of YOUNG PEOPLE trying to establish an identity in todays society,

i believe a positive and understanding attitude to most so called yobbish behaviour would have far more benifical effects for themselves and society as a whole as a comprehension of the difficulties they have inflicted upon others are made apparent to them. rather than the ostracization that we opt for now.

Conversely, I believe that a proper good hiding every time they bully someone or vandalise something would work wonders.

what do you consider to be aquastar proper good hiding*? from what age would you begin to administer such punishment?
if it doesnt have the desired effect do you increase the severity?

This is a "Never the twain shall meet" discussion. I have decided to respect your opinion, and keep mine to myself.

An interesting view, to smack/hit/physically punish those kids that do wrong and expect them not to view hitting someone as a solution to many things as they grow up..

sorry to bump this thread but I have some more opinions and I only just had a look at the forum since yesterdays post.

I firmly believe in hitting children when they misbehave, I was hit as a child and I turned out ok, well at least I think i did *swigs special brew* I do believe there is a very fine line to how a child reacts to it though depending on what they have been hit for, many abusive parents overuse it and in turn create a monster out fo their child which reverts back to what tikay was stating about bad parents = bad kids. Which is without a doubt one of the most pressing issues in our country today.

Letting violent parents bring up violent kids needs to be kerbed but there is just know moral/ethical way to say "Hey you can't reproduce anymore".

i just really think kids are bored stiff,,,,give them something to do,,,pay them if they do a good job,,,picking up litter anything,,,rather than let them hang around summer holidays being bored getting upto mischief,,,we used to work at local farms feeding bigs or bailing hay it give us money to buy fags or get pi55ed,,,atleast we wasnt hanging around smashing up bustops,,,

Children should be nurtured not attacked by their parents.
