Buying into live events online?

Prob a stupid question but I can't think of the answer.

You can buy into APAT events online right?

Why can't you do the same with any other live comps? Or has it all changed recently and you can buy into say a GUKPT event online?

I think this will happen a lot more after tomorrow and the new legislation (with the law change regarding players having to be seated before the start, and the use of alternates, etc.). 

Like you say, it would be daft not to be able to buy in to a GUKPT event via Bluesq. 


(by the way, I don't really know how it works now for most events, just thinking out loud...so I might be wrong here - again)

Basically a reserve.  A list of alternates can be used to replace people who register for an event but then drop-out.

Not sure what the rules are on this at the moment (obviously if you have to be there at the start of an event, alternates can't be brought in once a tournament has started), but with the new legislation I guess it means that these alternates/reserves will be standard practice.  I believe they are in many other countries.

Only the Vic and Walsall will be trialing this. You CAN'T book in for events in Grosvenor or reserve seats over the phone.

Ok, so you still have to go to a casino to buy in but you can at least visit the one nearest you rather than the casino where the event is going to be played.

With buying into a tournament online - most tournaments already have that facility in place..............

Alternative = If a tournament starts with say 35 players, on 4 tables, there will be 5 empty seats... For the first hour, people can walk into the poker room and join, taking one of them seats for the same price that everybody else has paid, and for the same chips...

Once all 4 tables are full, the next person who came to play, has to wait for a seat, ie, one person gets knocked out..  The person waiting will get that empty seat... There could be more people waiting....  The person knocked out is allowed to go back to the desk and pay his money to become an alternate, but, he joins the queue behind anybody else that got there..

Sometimes, early on, when nobody has joined the queue, it is possible to go out and pretty much stay in your seat like a rebuy because there is no queue...

It is also possible that if 10 people join the queue, they can open a new table and make into a bigger tournament..

So, it is similar to a rebuy, but, nobody is guaranteed to get back in before the hour expires..

I saw a guy, low stacked, looking at the clock, 1 min remaining, go all-in because if he lost, he would get twice the number of chips he was holding by doing an alternate, unfortunately, the person at the front of the queue got his seat, so he really should have checked the size of the queue before deciding on his dumb bet..!!

I don't believe the UK legislation allows you to buy in again after you bust.
