Radio 2 is marking its 40th birthday by asking listeners to nominate and vote for the person who best represents the last four decades.
The shortlist has now been announced. Do you think this is a definitive list (FFS Lara Croft is fictional) or who do you think is missing....... Mother Teresa, Tikay etc etc
Muhammad Ali The Beatles David Bowie Kate Bush David Cassidy Lara Croft Diana, Princess of Wales Michael Jackson John Lennon Nelson Mandela Sir Paul McCartney Morrissey Donny Osmond Elvis Presley Sir Cliff Richard Sir Terry Wogan

My first thought was David Bowie - someone who has changed with the times and been representative of each era - but I see he's already on there. Don't quite see the rationale in having people that have been dead for 20+ years on the list, or people that weren't even born 40 years ago.

I mainly agree with that statement, although I'd have to make an exception for Elvis as he is quite clearly still part of current popular culture.

I'm not even sure what 'best represents the last 40 years' means.
If it's from a British perspective then surely the answer is The Queen - I think 'd probably edge her ahead of David Cassidy.

Muhammad Ali is probably one of the most recognisable faces of the last 40 years (to people of all ages throughout those 40 years) across the world. Doesn't mean he best represents the past 40 years though - although he'll be up there I would imagine. Is it someone who best represents the last 40 years for people in the UK, or all over the world? No Cilla Black on the list?

I don't think this was given a great amount of thought by the people who drew up the shortlist. However -- Lara croft ? ok then I vote for Homer Simpson
