From there Mandela, he's been an activist, terrorist, poltical prisoner, celebrity, political leader, world figurehead.

That's one hell of a journey over 40years and has showed the changing of our world over that time.

Yeah, but he spent the first half of those 40 years dossing about in prison - Cliff Richard was on Top of the Pops loads during that time.

He was merely representing the boring crapness of those years

Aunty Doris, for being my Mum.

Alexander Haig. Without him, there is no knowing what the American Administration might have gotten the Miilitary to do. Bad as it is, it woulda been far worse without Haig.

Have to admit I think the same. He seems like a sweet loving guy but can a pop star/singer for all the years he has been on top really be so innocent. I cant believe he hasnt got one or two secret love children at the very least.

I have always thought he was gay tbh and the fling thing with the tennis player was a cover up but surely he would have come out by now if he was.

Very strange person but love his voice....... roll on Christmas for his next single

For me it's a toss up between Beavis and Butthead (biggest cultural influence on the Western World of the 80's and early 90's)  and Homer Simpson.

To actually nominate the most important person of the last 40 years you would have to divide them into sub-categories. You can't say Mohamed Ali had the biggest impact on anything other than sports. Mandela on politics etc.
The most influential person of the last 40 years will not be someone famous; the guys who invented the internet had a bigger impact on the world than Mohamed Ali or Princes Diana (FFS that she even made the list)..

A typical lazy telly executives idea this list but I'm sure they'll drag it out over 8 or 9 weeks..bless the BBC for spending my license fee on stuff like this.
