I used to think of myself as a great poker player. Then, for a while I thought of myself as a crap poker player. Then I started reading some "other fora", and realised actually I was still a damn site better than a lot of people out there...

I spend a fair bit of time on a "finanical discussion board" which also has a poker board in its myriad of subjects. I was reading one the other day, about a guy who was pleased to have won a 180 man sit and go, and that he was back on form....He then posted a few key hands from the battle that he had just one

- once he got all his chips in with AQ vs JJ and wins

- once he got all his chips in with K9 vs K10 and wins

- once he got all his chips in with 3 3 vs 6 6 vs 10 10 and spikes a 3

- once he got all his chips in with A9 vs A10 and wins

he finally manages to take the tournament down when he gets AA - by which point I would think his opponents were hanging themselves from the ceiling.

my comment of "do you ever get your chips in when you are ahead" has so far been met with silence.

my point ? oh just that if you are ever feeling down about your game, have a look at some of these messageboards. Your confidence will be sky high in no time.

Was his name KingPoker?

To win a tournament, you more often than not have to win a hand where the money goes in when you're behind.  Although obviously the more you do that in the tournament, the more you're relying on luck to see you through.  It's true that almost anyone can win a tournament (I should know), but it's winning them (or at least going deep) consistently that sets the better players apart.

Heh. I won a 45 runner last night after being on a streak of 4 or 5 games without cashing. In those 4 or 5 games, I played well but ran bad. In the game I won my 44 beat AA after I rivered a set (all my chips at stake) and I spiked another two outer on the river later (about 1/3 my chips at stake).

I was very lucky. But this is what I dislike most about poker. I play well, I lose. I play badly, I win. It sucks.
