I had the prob of a losing team and a crap stadium. Got lucky in that I managed to buy a 4/5 week popper for 18k. Had him for a season n half, if not less, so done ok out of it.

i almost quit the game twice selling all my players at the start and buying in crap to replace them
but once i got my training sorted everything is going well
expanding stadium to 14k ATM
