Hi,

I know a few Blondes played in this and it looked like a great tournament, well run and very successful, was this the case?

What would be the legality issues of holding a similar event in the UK? Also, how would you run cash games alongside the tournament?

I'm very interested to find out, as i am looking into running one in London in Spring 2008 with 500+ runners. Somewhere around £100-150 buy in.

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Doesn't look like there is much interest Sad

On a serious note. I think, with a bit of hard work. a 1000 runner £100 freezeout could be put together. A la Dublin last month

everyones on the arcade!! i think it would be a great idea. a way around it could be to get a sponsor to hold the funds and deal with the payouts so that cash isn't exchanged on the day.

I believe Up The Mariners did very well in the IPO so no wonder he's enthusastic. Seriously, well done sir. thumbs up
But if it is possible to run a similar event here it would be excellent and I'm sure you would have no problem getting 1000+. I played in Dublin and it was a great weekend.
Good luck with it as I'm sure the logistics will not be easy.
An affordable buy in tourny with a good structure in England what fun that would.
As Andy Black said when he turned up in Dublin these type of events will help to improve the overall standard of poker players in Europe that don't get to play many tournys of this sort.
Count me in.

I imagine the reason that Blonde are doing all these comps in Ireland is cos you can't do them here. Wasn't there meant to be a big thing at Old Traford once that got cancelled due to legal reasons?

its down to availability of venue sizes in the UK for one

and licencing issues in the UK for two

same issues, eg in big corporate hotels, do not exist in Ireland

Yep, we would look at sponsoring the tournament, but buy ins would be done the same as Ireland i.e buy-in online, payout online.

This is obviously great for the business aswell..

I (and many others) weren't happy with the requirement to download yet another poker site in order to register for the Irish event.  Make it an option, but not the only option.  It was for this reason alone, that myself and a number of friends didn't make it to Dublin last month.  I'm all for pre-paid registrations and a cut off date, but not everyone plays internet poker...as was the case with the friends I'm referring to.  With an event of that size I understand that knowing the numbers is crucial for success, but surely pre-paid registration can be done in any number of ways.

Also, if you have a specific target for entries, make sure you have sufficient staff (dealers, floor people, etc.) to cover that target.  They were left short at the last minute in Dublin, but luckily the players on the day handled it well and organisers averted a publicity disaster thanks to the good spirit of those players.

Good luck!

I understand the buy in situation isn't the easiest but we can't have cash on premises, so this is the only way i think we can work round that.

If something like this was to go ahead, we would definately ensure that everything is done to the highest standards possible.

by having all the cash processes done online this may avoid the legal issues that arise.

That's a pity.  It means I can pay for myself, but not my husband or friends that might want to go.  Ah well...suppose there's enough going on around the place to keep the lot of us busy.

Yes I agree not the perfect system but at the same time it wasn't too much hastle to download the software. It did seem a bit strange registering like an online tourny then just turning up in Dublin with no conformation or reciept, no one asked me for proof of ID so a cunningly disguised Phil Ivey could have played in my place.lol
The staffing is in my opinion much more important. But lessons must be learn't from Dublin.
