"I'm not stepping down," McClaren told BBC Sport after England, who needed just a point to qualify from Group E, lost 3-2 to Croatia at Wembley

Isn't this just about payoffs etc, wasn't he contracted till 2010? I mean McClaren must know his position is impossible.

There's only one man for the job, Gary Megson!!!

Surely he's been at Bolton long enough!

That's what the Bolton fans think Cheesy

How about Harry Redknapp - passionate, knows the English players, well respected and done a decent job given the clubs he's been in charge of.

Suspect he'd be quite a popular choice. Got balls as well.

Big Phil Scolari or Mourinho for me, Scolari's record at improving teams in decline and turning them into winners is very good, he will do for me.

Shame the FA wont have the balls to appoint him.

I think England need a manager who has recently shown that he can take a bunch of under performers and make them play above themselves.

Man City have been doing well this season - maybe the FA should approach their manager, whoever he is.
