Bargain or Robbed

I've noticed this thread on the Sokker forums, thought we could have one here. Basically you post your purchases (any game you play) and we'll all tell you you've been ripped off even if you've got an obvious bargain!

I'll start with my latest purchases on battrick
Andy Giles (1646226)
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, lively
A cautious player with mediocre leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Plays For: Bigglesthwaite CC
Nationality: Australia
Age: 18 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 4,599 (-13)
Wages: £644 p/w
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: feeble
I paid £32,000, plan to pop him to respectable batting and sell for a profit. In the meantime he should prove to be a handy batsman in FC, by sticking around scoring slowly and letting the others play around him (I have a similar player who does just that already!)
Jake Mee (1625018)
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, mediocre batting form, proficient bowling form, lively
A destructive player with woeful leadership skills and worthless experience.
Plays For: Bigglesthwaite CC
Nationality: Australia
Age: 25 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 3,882 (+8)
Wages: £647 p/w
Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: worthless Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: competent Consistency: feeble
Fielding: mediocre
£11k, again, plan to pop to resp and sell him on. He'll probably only play against bots in OD and in any friendlies I have before selling him.

Both are excellent buys and shoul pop within two weeks. No doubt you will be listing them for 500k and 200k after their initial 42 day contract is up. Good skills trading, you slave trader. I hope you feel dirty!!!

When would I ever do such a thing?
Good idea on the prices though! They must be fair if you've suggested them...

Well, here's some "advanced" thinking for you on the value of nets and skill trading vs skill retention.
How much is a net worth? It costs 2k - but how much value do you need to add to the player with each net to ensure you are not paying a greater opportunity cost of depriving your squad of the skill addition than your eventual return on investment?
After much pondering, I have decided to value each net for a growing Div V team like mine and yours at 20k. Which is to say that each net should add at least 20k to my total squad value. Or, if you like, a week's ten nets should add 200k to my total squad value or I'm not getting the most from them. Over the season that's 3.6mill.
So, for each skill trade, iif selling price-purchase price-wages-base net cost is not greater than nets used x 20k, I think you are incurring and opportunity cost greater than the visible return.
Of course, this is assuming you are alreay earning max interest. The opportunity cost per net is lower if you have zero cash, more like 15k per net.
To use your purchases:
player a has a wage of 647. He cost 32k.
You train for two weeks to pop him.
You wait another four weeks.
You list for 500k
visible return on investment:-
500k-32k-4k (approx wages)-4k (one net for two weeks) = 460k
Opportunity cost of two nets = 40k
Total profit=400k
But, say you decided to train him for the full six weeks of his contract, pushing him past base respectable but only by a few weeks and not really adding to the resale value. Your are depriving a 17yr old trainee of four valuable nets!
visible return on investment
500k-32k-4k-12k = 402k
Opportunity cost of six nets = 120k
Total profit= 282k - still nice but 118k less than optimal.
Player B
200k-11k-4k-2k= 183k
-20k x 2 (40k)
Total profit = 143k
If six weeks training
-120k
Total profit= 63k.
Hence, you have landed one cracking bargain in player A and done a decent bit of business with player B.

they money paid for him was about right but you have noo need for him
wat too good for the league he can only score 8 points max wont score than many extra points for the nationals
basically for 180k you could of bought a team full of players that could get you in the top 4 in the country

I think he's about right.
Also think they are additional benefits to keeping any extra cash (after max interest) in players rather than in the bank in these times of high inflation. Especially if you can buy them cheap!

Not sure about the last one, but think the others are OK, maybe lacking a bit in stamina but should be usable in OD games.

Just looked at the Transfer market for the first time in weeks.
Can't believe how much the value of players has increased.
Stamina and all rounders seem to be worth so much more then just 6 or 7 weeks ago.

You can still find the odd bargain!
Stamina was always worth a lot for decent players, I think more people realise it now and are also demand for lesser skilled players has increased due to FC.
If you're on the look out for a certain type of player let me know and I'll give you a shout if i see one worth buying (that goes for anyone, no guarantees I'll find someone though!)
