The perils of winning

I wanted to see if anyone who has won an event has had any negative response. Over the last few years I have had a couple of results ( i know it's a miracle ) After everyone of these I received emails from friends saying well done etc and a little humour.
On Friday night I was playing in a small event in London. After the event someone who I have treated with respect snubbed me. I thought he must have had a bad beat and was in a mood. This in itself would have been unusual. However when I asked if he wanted a drink he went mad.
As it seems to be common knowledge now I had a touch last week with a long standing bet. What upset him was that I never told him about it. I tried to explain that I was nervous about it, and needed to keep it quiet. That was not what he was upset about. What upset him was that he was not part of the bet. He said that I should have told him. We all know that nine times out of ten they go wrong. In this case I just had a hunch which took over a year. Their was nothing to tell once I started the bet as it was to late to "get on" I had to constantly add to the wager to balance the odds.
I now seem to have lost a friend. Or was he a friend. ! ! !

its not like you had inside info and you where tellling everyone but him was it, noooo, if a m8 of mine said he had a nice little touch ,just a hunch, but really fancied it and didint want to say anything as everytime he does it goes down, i would laugh and say good on yah m8 well done, and make a joke about getting the ale in, no its not you its him being a bit jealous ,dont apologise, send you mad those sort of people if you let them, , if he still reacts the same way next time you meet ,just ignore him ,your better off without him as a friend

i dont think a true friend would act like this.
unfortunately there are plenty of these sorts of people in casinos and the poker community who are only happy for people when they win so that they can 'nip' them etc

I had a similar situation, pretty stupid really, i was in the bookies and a bloke who owed me a favour gave me a tip, v.big price. Problem was I have backed this guys tips before with no joy but had a few quid so stuck it on. It won by a mile and i was in the pub a guy that i knew was having a tough time asked me why i hadnt let anybody else know. i said i didnt know how reliable the tip was etc and he went mad, havent spoke to him since. Yours is worse as if you told everybody all your 'hunches' you wouldnt have anybody to tell as people would avoid you like the plague! Not much you can do about a guy like that mate.

As we go through life we meet people along the way, some good, some not so good. You can't please them all. But believe me if this was a true friend none of this would happen. Move along and leave these sort of people in your wake.....

Don't understand that reaction at all. That's a 'friend' you can manage without Denis.
