I have an Acer laptop and tonight i was playing poker and it froze so i removed the battery (ctrl, alt, del wasn't working) and left it for a few minutes and when i switched it back on it started up, the acer screen came on and then there was just darkness, windows won't start up at all now. Anyone got any ideas?

The fan cuts out?

That could be causing it to overheat.

I would leave it for a while (hour+) to cool down properly and then try it - see if it boots and if the fan cuts out.

If you're in the UK that doesn't matter as you can claim that it is defective under the trade descriptions act or some such, as you would reasonably expect it to last longer than it has...

you have to time it right. try it  few times tapping frantically Cheesy
If you got to the splash screen then it will be able to show the startup screen

It sounds like it shuts down before starting to boot into windows, so probably can't get that.
