After Mateyboy had made it 1,200 to play and Ryan Fronda had smooth called, Mark Segal saw his opportunity to pounce and pushed in his short stack with Pocket Sevens. Whilst Fronda sipped on his tea and generally looked disinterested, Mateyboy counted his chips and called with J-T off suit. A Ten on the Turn and it was home time for Segal ,whose raised arms of disgust on the Turn spoke volumes. However, he still shook hands with his assassin as he left, although I suspect the motorway will be taking the inevitable hammering.

Wondering who our mystery sniper was, I politely tapped him on the shoulder like a praying vulture and made a request for his name. Oddly, he was hesitant at first, and for a moment, I actually thought he'd forgotten his name. Eventually, he conceded his forename as being Arco, but cringed when he moved onto his surname before asking, "Do you need my surname?" "Nah, should be able to work it out from your first name," I replied. On returning to the pressroom and, subsequently, the player list, I suddenly realised why he'd acted so reluctantly.

With 33 points, we have a new challenger to the Scrabble Man throne with...

Arco Zuyderduyn

"I'm Dutch, you see," he later confessed.

"Oh, so you travelled all the way from Holland to play at the Luton festival," I joked, fully expecting him to say that he lived in these parts.

"Yes," he replied sternly. "I did."

"Oh."

This is the guy that took me out Snoops. He was crippled on 4,200, re-raised all in with Q 8 off, l call with AJ, he hits the Queen. Then 3 hands later he re-raises all in again and l call with AQ suited, he has   and the board comes   three diamonds turn   river .

Nice! Good luck all and l have to admit it was a much better atmosphere and better service tonight, but the buffet was pants.

Found this tikay quote lurking on the forum and thought it would be worth reposting here too. I hope tikay doesn't mind, but it's highly interesting and makes a lot of sense.

Quote
Luton? Well, each to their own. Personally, I adore the place, & I intend to use Luton & dtd as my default Venues, as they both care so much for players best interests.

G-Luton opened early in 2007, & struggled for a while to sort enough Dealers. But the initial batch who were trained up are just super, ever smiling, friendly, & long-suffering at the rudeness of many players towards them. More are being trained as we speak, & the progesss Luton are making is exemplary.

Valets - or lack of them - is their achilles heel, but again, they are on the case. Ditto their Catering, which is just awful - but they know that, & are working on improving it. By the way, I always lave the Valets a drink at Luton when I (so rarely.....) get a draw, because it's not the Valets fault that there are not enough of them.

Most of all, the regulars are a terrific bunch, & that counts for so much. Nina has grow in stature beyond recognition, Adrian is a future Top TD, very much in the Yogi-mould, & Alastair, though he gets some stick, has his heart in the right place.

The chairs & tables are beautiful, & no cardroom in the UK - even dtd - gives the players as much "space" to wander around without falling over side-tables or asking players to "give me room to get past please". It's achingly large & supremely comfortable, it's just lovely to be able to stretch your legs & wander around freely.

The range & stucture of their week-in week-out Tourneys is as good as any in the UK.

The reception Staff do that weird thing that other venues - especially The Vic & Brighton Rendezvous - find so hard to do - smile.

The music - they have a "turn" most nights - is just horrendously loud & incredibly distracting, but we have to rermember, it's a Casino, not a pure Poker Venue (a'la dtd), & so they have to cater for "Casino Tourists" who come to play the table games, especially at weekends. On Friday & Saturday nights, the place absolutely heaves with people, "night out" folks, & this is where Grosvenor make their income, not from Poker. Were it not for that income, there would not be the superb Cardroom at Luton, so I guess we have to endure the damn music on that basis, & remember thart we can't have our cake & eat it.

This week's Fessie has suffered with low numbers - as most Fessies have in 2007, due to the "series poker" craze, but plans are afoot to address that in 2008.

As an aside, & apropos Luton "developing" their new Cardroom, have a guess at how many Staff they employ - it's the top side of 120! And how many different nationalities within that? 32!

It's not easy starting a new Poker Venue, as Rob & his dtd Team will testify, & I think Lution are working very hard to be one of the UK's Premier poker venues. These things are not easy, & take time. I know of no other Venue, dtd excepted, that is trying so hard to please their clientele. We are lucky to have them both, in my opinion. Festivals & work apart, I shall share my Live poker time between Luton & dtd - 4 days a week at each.

As I watch Alistair Carins survive an all-in on a 9-8-T Flop (Ryan Fronda folded) and Dervis Ozkarapinar re-raise Kevin Moore off a hand pre-flop before showing the American Airlines, D Shearer chooses now to double up, courtesy of neighbour Danny D'Borin. I joined the action as the board was being dealt out, but chances are that it was all-in on the Flop.

D'Borin =

Shearer =

Flop =

Turn =

River = two hearts

I found this lady and her amazing outfit in the smoking cage. Big thanks to the dude who gave her a cigarette in the name of blondepoker so she'd let me take her photo. Apparently she "doesn't do anything for free."  Shocked

Meatloaf impersonator David Young is OUT. He raised preflop and was called by Arco Z (i'm not even going to try). He shoved on the Two Clubs flop, which must have delighted Arco as he insta-called with his two pair.

David Young -

Arco Z -

Turn -

River -

"First preflop raise I've made all day, and he calls me with T-8," complained a disappointed David, fleeing the cardroom like, um, a bat out of hell.

Meanwhile Yilfer Shevket is upset about his smoked salmon sandwich.

"If I ask for toast, you must give me toast. Please."

Oh, Jesus m8 l thought you where someone else, that was a killer hand m8, but poor old Mick went out in a similar if not more ugly way.

p.s If you could bottle your attitude at the table and how u take beats, u would sell crates m8. Your a pleasure to play with! See you at DTD soon hopefully.
