i have been playing online for about a year now and am making a small profit playin .5/1 cash. i am planning 2 play live in the new year and was wondering if any of the people who have been 2 dtd think it is suitable for a first time live player.

Try your local rebuy tourney 1st, then a decent buy-in freezout. I would say definetly get some more live experience before venturing to DTD. Lot's of sharks appear to be surfacing LOL

If you can afford to spend £50 for the Thur's freezeout then DTD is a great place to go and learn by playing with some really good players (I am not including myself in there). I wouldn't advise playing cash but the £20 sit and go's are quite good. You just have to treat it as a learning experience and a great night out.

If however you want to treat live properly and build up a live bankroll then I would advise playing in soft games at places like Riley's. I would avoid low buy-in games at casinos as they are big crap shoots and can be quite frustrating. If there are any APAT events near you they are def worth the effort.

I don't think his concern should be whether he is +ev in the field for his 1st live tourney.

dtd is perfect for you first live experience, the tourneys are well organised and structured, dealer dealt so you don't have to worry about dealing. The atmosphere on Thursdays is friendly and lively.

The last thing you want is going to you local chip throwing contest get abused by the locals for being an "internet" players and be generally imitated by the locals. You should see it as an experience to be enjoyed not an ordeal.

Hell i wish I had dtd around when i started playing instead of having to brave the £20/30 PLHE rebuy's at gala Notts, many newbies down there didn't come back after one night there unfortunately and to be honest i don't blame them.

If you do come down on your own and want some friendly company (cue gay jokes), I plan on playing most Thursdays so let me know.

i actually went last night for the £100 it was only my 4th time in a casino/cardroom and i found it to be great what a venue to play poker everyone was very friendly and helpfull i would reccomend it to any new live player,it is a little daunting when you first walk in but you soon get over it once you get into your game ect, also i got chatting to RED DOG who was on my table and i must say what a great guy gave me some sound advice in the break and made me feel welcome , i will defo be going again infact im going to try and go once a week even though it is a 2hour drive there and back there really is no where else i would rather play after going there last night.

Cheers mate wont be until the new year.  i just want to try live poker and am really keen 2 check out dtd after all the good things ive heard on blonde. i will be obviously trying 2 win but my main objectives will be 2 try live poker, check out the cluband have a laff. Any wiinings will be a bonus. lucky you if i end up on your table

Why not? He said he plays cash online (didn't mention tournies). Play what your comfortable with / used to.

DTD is a great place to play. Go there, do it. What are you still thinking about it for ?

If he feels comfortable playing cash for the first time live against a load of good players then thats fine, but in my mind when I play cash I want a real edge over the table and I don't think you will get that at DTD.

Yep that was me, good to meet you too mate and thanks for telling me about your pocket Queens it could have been so easy for me to have gone bust with my 2 pair on the flop when you hit trips it would have been a very short game for me there i thinks, and yes that older guy what a chracter he was i think he may have had a bit of history with RED-DOG as he was ribbing him quite a bit very funny guy hope he on my table again sometime , anyway if we in the club the same time again make sure to say hi.

play what you feel you will be comfotrtable with 50p/£1 is offered and would probably be the most appropriate level for you to experiment with live cash game play to see what the transition is like from the internet to live

getting your feet wet in the thursday comp wouldnt be a bad idea either, slow structure and dealer dealt allowing you to relax, get to enjoy the feel of the chips and of course admire the valets

to the above comment about getting your feet doused in softer arenas like rileys and the gala nottingham, this is where i began (m.m way, still have not ventured into rileys) and found that the banter and the players there were what got myself into the world of poker i really cant fault the place for that, so please stop with the bashing

Red here on my dad's computer. The old guy on our table was Con "The Dazzling Cornelius" Cronnin. A great player with more moves that Michael Jackson.

And yes, we do have a bit of history but no animosity. It's all in good fun.
